11-13-07 Showboat Casino - Hostage Situation

On November 13, 2007 around 10pm the Atlantic City Police Department were dispatched to the Showboat Casino for a hostage situation.  Once Police arrived they learned a man was holding 4 people hostage on a shuttle bus in the parking garage area of the Showboat Casino.  One person escaped out of the bus while the driver wrestled with the man.  The escapee alerted police the man was armed with a gun.  The Bomb squad delivered a cell phone by a robot to the bus.  The man then told police he was strapped with a bomb as well as having already placed four bombs in the casino.  The Casino was evacuated as well as hotel rooms near the casino floor.  All Occupants were forced outside on to City streets for the entire event.  Special Operations units were called in as well as K9’s throughout several counties.  The hostages were released unharmed.  At 4:18 am, Atlantic City SWAT gained access on to the bus and took the suspect into custody.  No bombs were found inside the casino.  The alleged weapon was also identified as a pellet gun.   The suspect identified as David Kilkeary, is charged with making threats, and obstructing interstate commerce.  He could face 10 years for the first offense and 20 for the 2nd if found guilty.  He also faces a quarter million dollar fine for each offense.  Over 100 officers were on location as well as F.B.I, SWAT, Bob Squad, Atlantic County Prosecutors Office, Detect and Render Safe Task Force, multiple K9 units, Atlantic City Fire Department, ALS and BLS units.

Information on Kilkeary was obtained from local news.
