12-30-05 2816 Federal St. - 2nd alarm dwelling
Engine 9 and 11, Ladder 3 and 1, Rescue 1 and Battalion 2 were dispatched for a report of a dwelling fire at 2816 Federal Street on December 30. This location was an exposure to an earlier 2-alarm call that evening. Battalion 2 arrived with heavy fire showing and struck the all hands, bringing in Squad 7, and Battalion 1. The second alarm was struck 10 minutes into the job. Engine 1 and 6, Ladder 2 and Car 3 were added to the job. Rescue 1's crew searched the building with negative results. Crews contained the blaze with four handlines. The American Red Cross was called upon to aid the eight displaced adults.

12-29-05 Federal St. - 28 St. - 2nd alarm dwelling
Engine 9 and 11, Ladder 3 and 1, Rescue 1 and Battalion 2 were dispatched to Federal Street and 28th for a report of a dwelling fire. Battalion 2 arrived at 2816 Federal St. with a 3-story, wood-frame dwelling fully involved, and immediately struck the second alarm. Engine 1 and 6, Ladder 2, Battalion 1 and Car 3 were added to the box. Less than 10 minutes into the job, there was a total collapse of the fire building with exposure problems on both the B and D sides. The building was reported to be vacent at the time.Crews used five handlines and a tower-ladder to control the blaze. A handline was stretched and placed on the roof of the Post Office for protection. Engine 8 was special called to the scene. Car 3 had command while Car 2B and 1 responded to the scene as well. The fire was placed under control at the 40 minute mark. No firefighter injuries were reported on the fireground. This is the fifth working fire in a 6-day period for City of Camden firefighters.

12-27-05 30- Howell St. - All Hands Dwelling Fire (narrative by Greg Taylor)
On the morning of December 27, 2005, at approximately 7:40 a.m., Camden City firefighters were dispatched to the area of 30th and Howell streets for a report of a dwelling fire. Engine 9 (Buckingham) and 11 (Gorski), Tower-Ladder 3 (Magee) and 1 (Bain), along with Rescue 1 (Leary) and Battalion 2 (Depascale) were dispatched and arrived to find a 2-story, single-family residence with heavy smoke showing from the second floor; with the correct address being 2930 Howell Street. Battalion 2 also reported heavy fire from the first floor and that crews were operating with one 1.75-inch handline. He then requested Squad 7 (Harper) and Battalion 1 (Matyjasik) on the all hands. At 20 minutes into the fire Battalion 2 ordered all companies to withdraw from the dwelling and to execute an exterior attack; utilizing Tower-Ladder 3 and several large lines from Engine Co. 9. No reports of injuries were received, and the dwelling was vacant. Camden City Marshals are investigating the cause, and the fire was placed under control within 50 minutes by Battalion 2.

12-25-05 1762 Mt. Ephraim Ave - All Hands Dwelling Fire
Squad 7, Engine 8, Ladder 2 and 1, Rescue 1 and Battalion 1 were dispatched for a report of a building fire at 1762 Mt. Ephraim Avenue during the evening of Christmas. Squad 7 arrived with smoke showing and went into service.Battalion 1 arrived and reported a 2-story, vacent twin, heavily boarded with heavy fire showing from the second floor. He then requesedg the all hands; adding Engine 10 and Battalion 2 to the job. Ladder 2 and Rescue 1 went into service, executing a forcible entry. Squad 7 went into service with one 1.75-inch handline. Searches were performed with negative results. No firefighter injuries were reported. This was the second working fire on Christmas day in the City of Camden.

12-25-05 New St. - 2nd Alarm Dwelling Fire
A Fire Marshal called in to report a vacent dwelling fire on a bitter cold Christmas Morning. Battalion 1 arrived to find a 2-story, middle-of-the-row, vacent, with heavy fire on the first and second floor. Battalion 1 then requested the second alarm. Crews went into service with five handlines and Tower-Ladder 3 went into service with master streams.Searches were negative. Crews had extension into the attached vacent dwelling as well. No firefighter injuries were reported.

12-23-05 - 22 24th St. All Hands Dwelling (Story and Photos by Greg Taylor)
On December 23rd The Camden City Fire Department was dispatched to 66 24th Street for a reported dwelling fire. Engine 9 (Kinky), Ladder 3 (Magee), and Battalion 2 (Depascale) arrived and reported a 2 story MOD with Heavy Fire from the 2nd floor. Companies attempted to go into service with a handline but were unable to due to the electrical box on the porch arching. Battalion 2 also reported that he had power lines down on the top of Tower Ladder 3. Battalion 2 requested the all hands which gave him Squad 7 and Battalion 1. Minutes later he also requested an additional Engine and Truck bringing Tower Ladder 1 and Engine 1 to the scene. Companies on scene encountered heavy fire conditions in the original fire building and were forced to evacuate due to structural instability and then began to protect the exposures. Multiple handline's were used at the scene along with several big lines and Engine Co. 9's Deck Gun. Fire was placed under control approx. 45mins from dispatch, no reported injuries at the scene.

12-10-05 Rt. 130 & Federal St. - Overturned Tanker M.V.A.
Engine 9, Rescue 1, and Battalion 2 were dispatched to Route 130 at Federal Street for a report of an MVA.Units arrived to find an overturned fuel truck (leaking) which had crashed into the White Castle Restraunt, struck another vehicle, flipped over and slid approximately 100 feet before coming to rest. Thankfully, the restraunt was not open at the time of the crash.Crews went into service, securing storm drains. Engine 11, Ladder 3, Field Comm 1, HazMat 5 and 13, and additional EMS units were called to the scene. A nearby apartment building was evacuated due to the hazards present, and a transit bus was requested for its displaced occupants. EMS personnel treated and then transported the occupant of the vehicle struck by the tanker. The driver of the fuel tanker stated that he was cut off while traveling southbound on Route 130. The crash is curently under investigation. Fire department personal remained on scene, as the highway was shut down for hours.

12-08-05 32 & High St. - Overturned vehicle in M.V.A.
Fire and EMS units were dispatched to 32 and High Street for a report of an MVA.Units arrived to find a 2-vehicle accident, with one overturned. The driver of the pickup involved was not trapped and after treatment at the scene he was transported by EMS to Cooper Medical Center. The driver of the car fled the scene prior to the police arriving.

12-07-05 610 S. 3rd St. - All Hands Dwelling Fire
Engine 1 and 6, Ladder 1 and 3, Rescue 1 and Battalion 1 were dispatched for a report of a dwelling fire at 3rd and Line streets. Engine 1 arrived at 610 South 3rd St. to find a 2-story end-of-the-row, vacent, with heavy fire showing. Battalion 1 arrived and struck the all hands bringing in Battalion 2 and Engine 8. Fire crews worked in freezing temperatures to bring the fire under control at the 50 minute mark. Primary and secondary searches were negative.

11-14-05 8th- Fairview St.'s M.V.A. Vehicle vs. Pole
Camden Fire Department Engine 9, Rescue 1, Car 3, ALS and BLS were dispatched to the area of 8th and Fairview streets for a report of a vehicle into the pole on November 8. Engine 9 arrived to find a single-vehicle accident. The driver was found lying on the ground. Police ran the tags to find that the vehicle was reported stolen not too long before the crash. The driver was transported by EMS to Cooper Hospital. PSE&G was notified due to the the pole being cracked.

11-14-05 592 Clinton St. - All Hands Dwelling Fire
Engine 8, Engine 6, Ladder 1, Ladder 2, Rescue 1, and Battalion 1 were dispatched for a dwelling fire. Engine 8 arrived to find heavy smoke showing from a 2 story middle of the row. Crews led off with 1 1 3/4 handline. Battalion 1 arrived and struck the all hands bringing in Engine 9 and Battalion 2. Crews contained the blaze to the front bedroom. Searches by the Rescue Company were negative. No injuries were reported.

11-13-05 502 Line St. 2nd alarm
Engine 6, Engine 1, Ladder 1, Ladder 2, Rescue 1 and Battalion 1 were dispatched for a dwelling fire. Engine 6 arrived to find heavy fire showing from the 2nd floor of a 2 story end of the row. Battalion 1 arrrived and requested the all hands bringing in Engine 8, Battalion 2. Ladder 3 was special called to the scene. Shortly after the 2nd alarm was requested. Crews used 4 1 3/4 handlines to control the blaze. Mutual aid from Gloucester City, Ladder 514 was called in as the fast team.

11-13-05 524 Line St. - 2nd job on same block within the hour
As Ladder 3 was backing down the street, leaving from the 502 Line St. job, they noticed heavy smoke showing from 524 Line. Battalion 1 arrived and filled the box for a 2 story end of the row. Engine 10, Engine 8, Rescue 1, Gloucester City Ladder 514 were called to scene. Battalion 1 struck the all hands. Crews contained the blaze without extension. Both fires were in vacent end of the row dwellings on the same block.

10-30-05 205 Morse St. - 2nd Alarm Fully Involved Dwelling Fire- Mischief Night
Squad 7, Engine 11, Ladder 3, Ladder 1, Rescue 1 and Battalion 2 were dispatched to the 200 block of Morse St. for a dwelling fire. Car 2B arrived with a vacent, 2 story, end of the row, fully involved. Master streams were put in operation upon arrival. Car 2B struck the 2nd alarm bringing in Engine 8, Engine 10, Ladder 2, Battalion 1, and Car 3. Rescue 1 searched the exposure with negative results.

10-28-05 Broadway- Ferry - High Angle Rescue
At 9:30 AM Camden City''s Ladder 2, Battalion 1, Medics and Gloucester City BLS, were dispatched to the Sacred Heart Church at Broadway and Ferry for a medical emergency.County Radio notified units they had a male on the roof of the church who was operating a machine and had a severe knee injury. Gloucester City EMS gained access via the workers ladders, and found the pt. to be stable with a knee injury. Ladder 2 arrived and went in service with the stick. Patient was secured and brought down by Ladder 2''s crew. Patient was transported to Cooper Hospital.

10-20-05 3500 block of Merriel - All Hands Dwelling Fire
A box went in in the City of Camden. Engine 9, Engine 11, Ladder 3, Ladder 1, Rescue 1 and Battalion 2 were dispatched for 3500 Merriel Ave. for a dwelling fire. Engine 9 arrived with fire showing in the rear of an occupied dwelling. Engine 11 picked up a water supply. Battalion 1 struck the all hands and requested an additional engine(7). Battalion 2 responded on the all hands. Crews used an 1 3/4 handline to contain the blaze. Searches by Rescue 1 were negative. Crews found no extension into the attached dwelling.

10-19-05 1468 Kenwood Ave - 2nd Alarm Dwelling Fire
Tones rang through the quiet city. Squad 7, Engine 8, Ladder 3, Ladder 2, Rescue 1 and Battalion 1 were dispatched for a dwelling fire in the 1400 block of Kenwood. County informed units they were receiving multiple calls on it. Squad 7 arrived to find a 2 story twin with heavy fire throughout. Battalion 1 arrived and struck the all hands bringing in Battalion 2. Battalion 1 reported the dwelling 20x40 with heavy fire in the basement, 1st floor and 2nd of a vacant. Crews made an initial interier attack. The second alarm was sounded bringing in Engine 1, Engine 9, Ladder 1, and Car 3. Crews switched to a defensive mode. Crews found extension into the attached dwelling which was vacant as well. Several master streams were used as well as the Tower Ladder. No injuries were reported.

10-05-05 1214 Kaighn Ave - All Hands Dwelling Fire
Squad 7, Engine 8, Ladder 1, Ladder 3, Rescue 1 and Battalion 1 were dispatched to the area of Kaighn and Louis St. for a dwelling. Squad 7 arrived at 1214 Kaighn to find a 2 story vacent with fire through the roof. Crews led off with master streams. Battalion 1(Kogut) arrived and struck the all hands bringing in Battalion 2. Engine 9 was also added to the box. Crews contained the blaze with several handlines. No injuries were reported. The location of the fire is soon to be the new grounds of a fire station.

10-04-05 816 S.6th St. - All Hands Dwelling Fire
Tones rang in the quiet city around 2 am. Squad 7, Engine 6, Ladder 1, Ladder 2, Rescue 1 and Battalion 1 were dispatched for a dwelling fire in the 800 block of S. 6th St. EMS arrived on location to find heavy fire showing. Battalion 1 arrived, reported fire through the roof and struck the all hands. Battalion 2 was added to the box. An additional Engine(8) was requested as well. Ladder 1 arrived and went in service with master streams. Crews had several handlines in operation from the exterior. Crews found extension in 2 of the dwellings. One firefighter was injured fighting the blaze. The house was vacent as well as the other 2 involved.

09-31-05 5th-Pine - M.V.A w/ child ejected
Engine 8, Rescue 1, Battalion 1, ALS and BLS were dispatched for an MVA at Pine and 5th, on August 31, 2005. Units arrived to find a 3-car accident with a child ejected from a vehicle. EMS units found the child lying on the sidewalk with severe bleeding. A total of three victims were transported to CMC, while the child was taken to the trauma center. Police state that it was a T-bone accident at the intersection which sent a Blazer spinning out of control and slamming into a pole. The child was reported to have been thrown from the vehicle when it slammed into the pole.

09-26-05 Broadway - Benson 2nd alarm Building Fire (submitted by Greg Taylor)
The morning of Monday September 26th, 2005 Camden City Firefighters and EMS were dispatched to the area of Broadway and Benson Streets for a reported Building Fire with possible occupants jumping from windows. Engines 1, 6, Ladders 1, 2, Rescue 1 and Battalion 1 (Rossi), EMS 21, 22 US 23, and Medic 43 were dispatched, Engine Co. 1 arrived to find a 3 story MOD Taxpayer with heavy fire from 418 Broadway and Heavy Fire from the rear of 418 and 416. Companies went into service to attempt an aggressive interior attack along with primary and secondary searches. Battalion 2 shortly after arrival requested the 2nd alarm bringing Engine 8, Squad 7, Ladder 3 and Battalion 2 (Wilson) along with Car 3 (Yates). Companies were pulled from the building and ladders 1 and 3 went into service with exterior ladder operations. Ladder 3 had attempted a trench cut to the roof between units 418 and 416 when they noticed the fire was ahead of them already. Command ordered companies to the interior of unit 416 to attempt further fire spread. With the assistance from Ladder 3 (Balakas) they prevented the fire from further advancement. Companies operated for approx. 50 min's prior to placing the fire under control. Special units on scene were, Field Com 2, and 4499. One firefighter from Rescue Co. 1 was transported to local hospital for minor injuries.

09-12-05 7th-Berkley - Structural Collapse leaves 1 trapped
Units were alerted in the Camden around 0950 hours for a structural collapse. Responding to the box was Squad 7, Rescue 1 and Battalion 1. Enroute, County Radio notified units of 1 occupant being trapped. Crews arrived to find the front portches to have collapsed at 4 of the dwellings. Witnesses stated a neighbor had pulled the trapped occupant from the wreckage. The occupant was transported by EMS. Crews searched the dwellings and debris to find no other occupants trapped. Public Service was requested to the scene to secured the electic and gas. No firefighter injuries were reported. The collapse is under investigation by the Camden City Fire Marshals.

07-25-05 819 Spruce St. - All Hands Dwelling Fire
Camden City fights their 2nd all hands fire on the same street withing a 12 hr period. Squad 7, Engines 8 and 1, Ladder 1, Rescue 1 and Battalion 1 were dispatched to 819 Spruce St. for a dwelling fire. Squad 7 arrived to find a 2 story middle of the row with heavy smoke from the 1st and 2nd floor. Squad 7 went in service with 1 1 3/4 handline. Battalion 1 arrived and struck the all hands bringing in Battalion 2. Engine 8 and 1 both established water supplies as Ladder 1 went in service with ventilation and the Rescue with searches. 2 handlines were used to control the blaze around the 20 minute mark. All occupants were accounted for. Fire started in the kitchen area of the first floor. Red Cross is attending to the displaced residents. No extension to either side of the exposures. Fire is under investigation by the Camden City Fire Marshals.

07-24-05 1030 Spruce St.- All Hands Dwelling Fire
Squad 7, Engine 8, Engine 1, Ladder 1, Rescue 1, and Battalion 1 were dispatched for a reported dwelling fire at 1030 Spruce St. County Radio reported a smell of electrical and visible fire showing. Squad 7 arrived with heavy fire showing from the 1st floor of a 2 story middle of the row. Battalion 1 arrived and used all hands. Battalion 2 was called to the scene. Squad 7 led off with 1 1 3/4 handline. Fire was contained to the one dwelling. No injuries were reported. The homeowner was not home at the time of the blaze. At this time illegal wiring hookup is under investigation.

07-22-05 159 N. 34 St. - 3rd Alarm Dwelling Fire
Around 10 am, on a scorching hot day, a box was transmitted in the City of Camden for a dwelling fire at 159 N. 34 St. Engine 9, Engine 11, Squad 7, Ladder 3 Rescue 1 and Battalion 2 responded. Engine 9 arrived to find heavy fire showing. Battalion 2 arrived,striking the all hands, reporting a single family dwelling 45x45 with heavy fire on the D delta side and heavy smoke throughout with an exposure. The 2nd alarm was sounded minutes after bringing in Engine 1. Crews worked to control the fire facing high heat temptures outside. The homeowner was transported to an area hospital when collapsing at the fire scene. A 3rd alarm was requested for additional man power. Engine 10 and Ladder 2 were brought in to the scene. Crews brought the fire under control without any injuries. Cherry Hill Canteen was called to the scene along with Pennsuaken's Cascade 1145.

07-22-05 233 Morse St. - All Hands Dwelling Fire
Camden City FF's battle the 2nd blaze of the day in the heat. Squad 7, Engine 8, Engine 1, Ladder 2, Rescue 1 and Car 3 were dispatched for a dwelling at 233 Morse St. Squad 7 arrived to find smoke showing of a 2 story end of the row. Car 3 arrived and struck the all hands. Squad 7 stretched a line to find a basement fire. Engine 8 established water supply as Ladder 2 ventilated. Crews extinguished the blaze without extension.

05-31-05 Highway 676 - 2nd Alarm Vehicle Fire
Engine 8 and Ladder 2 were dispatched for a reported truck fire on Highway 676 at the Atlantic Ave Exit. Engine 8 arrived to find a tractor trailor heavily envolved in flames. Battalion 1 was added to the box. Engine 8 led of with a 2 1/2 handline as Squad 7 was added for water supply. Battalion 1 requested an additional Engine (10) shortly before striking the 2nd alarm. Responding on the 2nd were Rescue 1, Engine 6, Ladder 3, Battalion 2, and Car 3. The truck was full of lumber at the time of fire. Crews extinguished the blaze to find themselves a massive fuel clean up operation. Car 3 requested the Camden ISAT team, multiple sandtrucks, and the Coast Guard as well. Crews worked to secure storm drains. Crews were on scene for a long duration of time to clean up the fuel.

05-30-05 Fern St. - All Hands Dwelling Fire
Shift change in the City of Camden became a busy one when an off duty firefighter reported a dwelling fire in 6's local. Engine 6, Engine 1, Squad 7, Ladder 1, Rescue 1 and Battalion 2 were dispatched to 8th and Fern for the box assingment. Engine 6 arrived to find a dwelling heavy envolved. Battalion 2 arrived to report a 20x40 single standing dwelling heavy envolved. Battalion 2 used all hands with a special call of a truck company. Initial report from a civilian was they saw a person jump from the 2nd floor. No occupants were found on scene. The cause is under investigation by the Camden City Fire Marshals.

05-15-05 1226 Decatur St. All Hands
The resident reported her couch was on fire. Dispatched was Squad 7, Engine 8, Engine 10, Ladder 2, Rescue 1 and Battalion 1(Matyjasik). Squad 7 arrived and found heavy smoke showing from a 2 story middle of the row. Battalion 1 arrived and struck the all hands bringing in Battalion 2. Squad 7 led off with 1 1 3/4 handline to find a living room fire. Rescue 1 performed searches with negative results. 1 pt. was checked out by EMS for burns on the hands. Crews contained the blaze to the living room with no extension. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Camdne County Fire Marshals.

05-13-05 1338 Everett St. All Hands Dwelling Fire
A reported apartment fire was called in to 911. Dispatched was Squad 7, Engine 8, Engine 10, Ladder 2, Rescue 1 and Battalion 1(Matyjasik) Squad 7 arrived on location to find heavy fire showing from the 1st floor window. Battalion 1 arrived and struck the all hands and requested another truck company. Ladder 1 and Battalion 2 to contain the blaze to 1 were sent. Crews led off with 1 1 3/4 handline. 2nd due engine ran into a hydrant failure when trying to establish a water supply. Battalion 1 requested an additional engine bringing in Engine 1. Crews worked apartment. Rescue 1 searched all 3 floors with negative resutls.

05-06-05 810 Grant St. - 2nd alarm Dwelling Fire
A fire was reported in the City of Camden at 2:10 p.m. on 6 May, 2005 at 810 Grant Street. Responding on the box was Engine 6, Engine 11, Engine 11, Ladder 1, Rescue 1 and Battalion 2, (Phelps). Ladder 2 was in the area and was directed to the incident. Camden County Radio reported they were receving serveral calls, and a report of possible kids trapped inside. Car 2B, (Quinn), reported from several blocks away he had a column of smoke showing. EMS and PD confirmed upon arrival that all occupants were out of the dwelling. Engine 6 arrived with heavy fire showing from the rear of a 2-story dwelling. Car 2 arrived and struck the 2nd alarm. The 2nd alarm companies were Engine 11, Squad 7 and Battalion 1, (Kogut). Crews used several inch-and-three-quarter handlines and a two-and-a-half-inch line in the rear. Fire was declared under control 54 minutes into the assignment. No injuries were reported. The cause of the blaze is under investigation by the Camden City Fire Marshal's Office.

05-05-05 Chelton St. - Haz Mat. Incident
Engine 10, Ladder 2, Rescue 1 and Battalion 2 were dispatched for a hazard materials assingment at Chelton St. and the Railroad tracks. A Police Officer reported a large bag with a strange ordor coming from it. Units arrived to find a bag sitting next to the traintracks. Rescue 1 arrived, donned Haz Mat suits and invistigated. Crews found the remains of an animal body inside. Crews cleared the scene around the 20 min. mark.

An apartment fire was reported at 0100 hrs. On the box was Squad 7, Engine 8, Engine 10, Ladder 2, Rescue 1 and Battalion 1. Squad 7 arrived to find heavy smoke showing from the first floor windows. Battalion 1 arrived and struck the all hands bringing in Battalion 2. Squad 7 contained the blaze with 1 1 3/4 handline. Fire was reported to be under control around the 15 min. mark. No injuries were reported |

05-04-05 28th- Carmal- M.V.A. Vehicle Overturned
Engine 9, Rescue 1, Battalion 2, ALS and BLS were dispatched for a 2-car MVA at 28th and Carman on 4 May, 2005. Engine 9 arrived and confirmed 1 vehicle was overturned. Three of the victims were out walking around. Rescue 1 was cancelled as there was no entrapment. A teenager, driving an Explorer, ran a stop sign and struck a van in which there was a mother and small child. No serious injuries occurred.

05-03-05 2006 Howell St. - 2nd alarm dwelling fire with 2 Rescues
A box was dispatched at 0300 hrs in the city for a dwelling fire. Responding was Engine 9, Engine 11, Engine 6, Ladder 3, Rescue 1 and Battalion 2. County informed units they were receiving multiple calls for a fire with people trapped. Engine 9 arrived to find a 2 story middle of the row fully involved with 2 people trapped on the roof. Battalion 2 arrived and struck the 2nd alarm. 2nd alarm companies were Squad 7, Engine 1, Ladder 1, Battalion 1 and Car 3. Crews through a ground ladder to the side of the D side to remove the 2 trapped occupants. ALS and BLS transported a 35 y/o male with smoke inhalation. Crews worked to contained the blaze with damage to both exposures. No firefighter injuries occured.

04-28-05 3916 Colorado Rd. - All Hands Dwelling Fire W/ Rescue
Shorlty before 1 AM the tones rang out in the city for 4 platoons 2nd job of the tour, ATTENTION: E-10, SQ-7, E-8, L-2, R-1 and Battalion 1 Matyjasik, at Collings and Colorado roads a dwelling. Companie were signed on responding when County Radio contacted Engine 10 with a report of a victim trapped on the second floor. Engine 10 arrived to find a 2 story end of the row ordinary with heavy smoke showing at the second floor with one of the dwellings occupants in the street screaming of a trapped occupant. Battalion 1 arrived and took command, at 01:05 hours the ALL HANDS was struck bringing Battalion 2 DiPascale in as Safety Chief. 2 Truck arrived and went to work opening up the structure with fire taking hold of the rear bedroom and began an immediate primary search with the RESCUE for the trapped occupant, at 01:07 hours Battalion 1 reported 2 1 3/4" hand lines in service, RESCUE 1 conducting a primary and 2 Truck continuing to open up the structure. Crews were making good progress on this very smoky fire, at 01:08 hours the Battalion called for an extra Truck company to go to the roof for ventilation, however before arriving on location 1 Truck was redirected to the D- Delta exposure to check for victims and extension. During the fight members of 2 Truck found the victim in the front bedroom area of the dwelling and removed him to the awaiting UMD-EMS unit on the exterior of the dwelling. Crews made a good knock on the fire with no extension to the D-Delta exposure, the fire was placed under control at 01:26 hours.

04-27-05 1318 Browning St. - 2nd alarm Dwelling Fire
A box was sounded in the City of Camden for a reported dwelling fire. Responding was Engine 8, Engine 1, Engine 1, Ladder 2, Rescue 1, Battalion 1 to 1318 Browning St. Battalion 1 arrived with heavy smoke showing from a 2 story middle of the row vacent. Battalion 1 struck the 2nd ALARM upon arrival. 2nd alarm companies were Engine 10, Engine 6, Ladder 3, Battalion 2, Car 3. Battalion 1 also requested a 3rd Ladder Co., bringing in Ladder 1. Crews had fire in the original address with extension into an occupied1320. Crews faced a problem with the common attacks. Fire was held to the address without extension farther up the row. No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Camden City Fire Marshals.

04-25-05 554 Divison St. - Fatal 2 alarm Dwelling Fire
Shortly after 09:00 hours City Fire Marshall Car 5 Charlie Tony Gonzalez happened upon a dwelling with smoke showing from the second floor area, he called the dispatch center and gave a report. At 09:10 Hours crews of the 2nd Platoon herd the tones ring out for the dwelling fire at 554 Division street in the South Camden section of the city. On the box were E-8, SQ-7, E-1, TL-1 R-1 and Battalion 1 Paul Matyjasik, crews arrived to find a 2 story vacant end of the row ordinary with heavy smoke showing from the second floor, Battalion 1 arrived and declared the ALL HANDS bringing Battalion 2 Dan Rossi in as Safety Chief, Deputy Chief Tom Quinn also arrived on scene and took Command of the incident. Engine 8 began the 1st stretch as Tower Ladder 1 and the RESCUE began cutting the boards of this heavily boarded up structure, Engine 8 entered the structure but had difficulty ascending to the second floor due to heavy debris piled up on the stairway, Deputy Chief Quinn was notified and the Second Alarm was struck bringing E-6, E-11 and 2 Truck. Access was finally gained at the rear of the structure through the second floor window where the bulk of the fire was located, upon entering a victim was found just below the window, the victim was removed through the window to the rear roof area. Crews continued the fire fight as a primary search was continued through the remainder of the structure. Ladder 1 went to the roof as crews operating in the B-Bravo exposure found extension into the cockloft, lines were quickly in place and the fire was brought under control.

04-20-05 2419 Arnold St. - All Hands Dwelling Fire
A reported dwelling fire with a report on an infant trapped was dispatched in Camden City at 0042 hrs. Engine 10, Squad 7, Engine 8, Ladder 2, Rescue 1, and Battalion 1 responded to 2419 Arnold St. Camden County Radio advised crews a neighbor reported that an infant was still inside on the 2nd floor. Engine 10 arrived on location with heavy fire showing from division 2 of a 2 story middle of the row occupied dwelling. Battalion 1 arrived and struck the all hands. Battalion 1 also requested another engine and ladder crew. Rescue 1 arrived and searched the dwelling with negative results. Secondary searches also were negative. Crews contained the fire to 1 unit with no exposure damage. The cause of the blaze is under investigation by the Camden Fire Marshals.

Engine 1, Rescue 1 and Battalion 1 were dispatched for a MVA. Upon arrival of Rescue Co. crew had a vehicle into a building. The driver of the car was not hurt. No damage to the building. Cause was unknown. |

04-11-05 27th- Howell - M.V.A. Rescue
Engine 9, Rescue 1, Battalion 2 were dispatched for a M.V.A. Upon Engine 9's arrival, crew found a 2 car accident with occupants trapped. Battalion 2 arrived and ordered the Rescue to go in service for a door pop upon their arrival. Rescue 1 removed the driver door to free the occupant.

04-08-05 554 Berkley - All Hands Dwelling Fire
Engine 1 driving down Broadway found smoke coming from Berkley St. Engine 1 arrived infront of 554 Berkley St. to find a 2 story vacent boarded up and vandalized with heavy smoke throughout. The box was filled out bringing in Engine 6, Engine 8, Ladder 1, Rescue 1 and Battalion 1. Car 3 arrived and struck the all hands and requested an additional Engine and Ladder. Engine 9 and Ladder 2 were added to the box. Crews operated with 2 1 3/4 handlines. Searches were neagative. Fire was placed under control at the 30 minute mark.

04-07-05 Empire & Park - Rescue
Squad 7, Rescue 1 and Battalion 1 were dispatched to Park Avenue and Empire St.reet for a rescue assignment. Squad 7 arrived to find an infant locked in a vehicle. Squad 7 gained entry within minutes. The city handles many of these types of incidents each week.

04-02-05 1374 Merriel St. - All Hands Dwelling Fire
The second working fire within a couple hours for the east side. Engine 9,Engine 11, Squad 7, Ladder 3, Rescue 1, Battalion 2 dispatched to the residence next to 3174 for a report of smoke coming from an occupied dwelling. Engine 9 arrived with smoke showing. Battalion 2 arrived and struck the all hands. Crews went into operation with 2 1 3/4 handlines to contain the blaze.

03-23-05 Haddon - Market St. - Ladder drops fuel tank
Old Ladder 2 (acting 1) notified Camden County Radio that their fuel tank had fallen off the truck. Battalion 1, Rescue 1, and Engine 1 responded to the scene. The Ladder's brackets had broken off causing the fuel tank to drop to the ground and spill. Crews worked to reattach the tank for transport to the shop.

03-15-05 47 N. 42 St. - 2nd alarm dwelling
A City box went out on the east side. Engine 11, Engine 6, Squad 7, Ladder 3, Rescue 1 and Battalion 2 responded on the first alarm. Car 3 arrived and special called Engine 9 due to heavy fire conditions. Car 3 struck the 2nd alarm bringing in Engine 1, Ladder 1, Battalion 1, Car 2 and Car 2A. Crews performed an interior attack until command reported a threat of the roof collapsing due to heavy fire in the attack. Crews switched to defensive mode as fire went through the roof on the B side. Crews entered back in the structure around the 1 hr. mark. The fire was placed under control shortly after that.

02-13-05 1455 Persian Ave - All Hands Dwelling
Squad 7, Engine 8, Engine 10, Rescue 1, Ladder 2 and Battalion 1 were dispatched for a reported dwelling fire. Upon arrival crews found heavy smoke showing from a 2 story middle of the row. Crews entered the structure to find heavy fire. Crews went in service with 1 3/4 handline. Battalion 1 arrived and struck the all hands bringing in Battalion 2. Crews contained the fire without exposure problems.

Around 1500 hrs Rescue 1, Squad 7, Batt. 1, ALS and BLS were dispatched to Morton and S 10th St. for an MVA Rescue Assingment. Upon arrival of Rescue 1, occupants were self extricating out of an overturned vehicle. Several occupants were transported for minor injuries. |

02-05-05 707 Ferry Ave - All Hands Apartment Fire
The South Camden companies of 3 Platoon were dispatched to 707 Ferry avenue, the Branch Village Apartments for a possible dryer fire, these apartments are 2 1/2 story ordinary with a peaked rain roof just added over the existing flat roof. Engine 10 and the RESCUE arrived on location and began investigating the exact address location as these apartment span about 4 city blocks, RESCUE 1 command found smoke showing from apartment 707. Fire broke out through the rear thermopane window as Engine 8 was in the process of stretching an 1 3/4" attack line, RESCUE 1 conducted a primary of the 1st and 2nd floors as 2 Truck vented the apartment windows and the roof scuttle in the recently added rain roof, crews contained and extinguished the fire quickly. Companies assigned on the box were E-10, E-8, SQ-7, L-2, R-1 and Battalion 1 Dan Rossi, Battalion 2 Larry Wilson as Safety Chief.

02-04-05 500 blk of 3rd St.- All Hands Building Fire
At 20:40 hours companies were dispatched to the area of 3rd and Birch streets for a dwelling fire, responding on the North Camden box were E-6, E-1, E-9, TL-1, R-1 and the 2nd Battalion Darryl Lewison. Engine 6 arrived 1st reporting an attatched structure heavily boarded up with heavy fire showing from the rear, Engine 6 will be going to work. The remainder of the box began arriving as 1 Truck attacked the structure with chain saws to open up the structure for the advancing engine company, Battalion 2 (Lewison) arrived and took Command, at 20:49 hours Battalion 2 reported one line in operation have the remainder of the companies proceed in and Stand Fast. At the 10 minute mark Battalion 2 reports that he will be utilizing 2 Engines the Tower Ladder and the RESCUE with the 3rd Engine Standing Fast, "Probable Will Hold". The fire was contained to the ordinary constructed structure with no extension to the exposure.

02-02-05 238 Line St. - 2nd alarm dwelling
Shortly before 1530 hrs a box went out for a dwelling fire at 238 Line St. Engine 1,6,8 Ladder 1, Rescue 1 and Batt. 2 responded. Car 2B found heavy fire from the 2nd floor of a vacant. Car 2B was informed from neighbors that there were possible people trapped. Car 2B struck the all hands upon arrival. Co.'s led off with a 2 1/2 and went to a defensive attack approx. 10 mins into the job due to heavy fire conditions. The 2nd alarm was requested bringing in Ladder 2, Squad 7, and Engine 10.

Federal St. - 2 alarm Building Fire
On a rainy Saturday morning, 30 minutes into their shift, the East Side went out for a box. Engine 9, Engine 11, Squad 7, Rescue 1, Ladder 3 and Battalion 2 responded to 1525 Federal Street for a building fire. Engine 9 reported to have fire through the roof upon arrival. Engine 9 led off with a 2 1/2-inch handline. Battalion 2 arrived and struck the 2nd alarm. 2nd alarm companies were Engine 6, Ladder 1, Battalion 1 and Car 3. Crews set up numerious master streams. The building was an old vacant hardware store. The fire was placed under control around the 1 and 1/2 hour mark, and no injuries were reported.

01-26-05 11 N. 25th St. - 2nd alarm dwelling
A box went out on a cold Friday morning for a reported dwelling fire at 11 N25th St. Responding on the box E9,E11,S7,L3,R1,B2. Crews arrived on location to find a 2 story occupied single family dwelling with heavy fire on 1st floor and heavy smoke on the 2nd. B2 arrived and requested a 2nd alarm. The 2nd alarm brought in E6,E1,L1,B1,C3. Crews initially started with an interior attack but switched to defensive shortly after the 2nd was struck. Extreme cold weather conditions hampered water supply efforts. 2 extra engines were requested as well as a truck co. Crews contained the blaze with no extension to the other dwellings. No injuries were reported.

01-18-05 Kaighn- Euclid - M.V.A Rescue
On a freezing Tuesday night, Squad 7, Rescue 1, the Batt., ALS and BLS were dispatched to Kaighn&Euclid for a MVA with entrapment. Upon Squad 7's arrival, crews found a vehicle with heavy front end damage and another on its side with 1 occupant trapped. The Rescue arrived and worked with the squad co. on removing the roof. Crews extricated the driver around the 25 min. mark of the assingment.

01-04-05 4th - Viola All Hands Dwelling
Around 0730 hrs. a box went out in 8's local for a reported dwelling fire. Upon arrival of Rescue 1, heavy fire was showing from the 2nd floor. Battalion 1 arrived and struck the all hands. Crews contained the fire to the 1 bedroom with minor extension. No extension to the occupied side of the dwelling. Squatters were believed to be living in the side where the fire started. No injuries were reported. Fire is under investigation.
