12-31-06 1100 Beideman Ave - All Hands Dwelling (Photos and Write up by Greg Taylor)

At approx 0015 Hours Camden City Firefighters were dispatched to the 1100 Block of Beideman Avenue for a reported dwelling fire.  Companies from Engine 9, 11, 6, Ladder 3, 1, rescue 1, and Battalion 2 responded to the scene.  Camden City Police reported they received calls of a passing vehicle that possibly tossed something at the house that exploded.  Engine Co. 11 arrived to find a 1 ½ Story Dwelling heavily involved on Side 1.  Crews operated with numerous handlines for approx. 40 mins before the fire was placed under control.  Fire investigators from Camden City Fire and Police are investigating the cause of the fire.  There were no reported injuries at the scene of the fire.

   



12-22-06 35 & Mickle - All Hands Dwelling Fatal (pictures and write up by Bob Chester)

Crews were  dispatched to a reported dwelling fire at the corner of 35 Th street and Mickle Ave. Battalion 2
arrived on location and reported fire showing. Engine 9 arrived and went into
operation with 1 3/4 handlines and secured its own water supply, Ladder 3
arrived and opened up,and checked for extension. Squad 7 was special called and
they secured a secondary water supply to Engine 11. At the 10 minute mark
Battalion 2 reported they had a confirmed DOA. The fire was placed under control
at the 30 minute mark.The Camden City Fire Marshals Office was dispatched to the
scene, and the fire remains under investigation.



12-21-06 3031 Alabama Rd. - All Hands 10 injured

At 0915 pm, a box was dispatched for a dwelling with people trapped at 3031 Alabama Road.  Responding were Engines 10, 8, Squad 7, Ladders 2, 1 , Rescue 1 and Battalion 1. 

 

County Radio advised units they were receiving numerous calls reporting a house on fire with victims trapped on the roof. Engine 10 arrived and reported heavy fire showing 1st floor with victims on the lawn.  Engine 10 went in service with a 1.75” handline.Battalion 1 arrived and reported a 2 story, ordinary construction, with heavy fire 1st floor and multiple victims.  Battalion 1 struck the all hands and also requested another Ladder Company.Ladder 3 and Battalion 2 were added to the box.  Ladder 2 arrived and threw ground ladders and assisted in searches.  Rescue 1 arrived and performed searches as well.  Squad 7 assisted Engine 10 with securing a water supply.  A 2nd 1.75” handline was also placed in service.

Battalion 1 reported at the 10 minute mark that the bulk of the fire was knocked down and searches in the dwelling were negative.   The fire was placed under control at 938pm.Mutual aid BLS units were brought in to the scene to assist with transporting the victims.  A total of 10 occupants were transported to area hospitals.  One was reported to be in serious condition and was transported to the trauma unit at Cooper Hospital.Camden City Fire Marshals, Camden County Fire Marshals and the Major Crimes unit are investigating the fire at this time.

12-14-06 2nd & Eerie - 2nd Alarm Dwelling

 Engines 6, 11, Ladders 1,3, Rescue 1 and Battalion 2 were dispatched in North Camden to 2nd and Eerie for a dwelling with people trapped on December 14, 2006 at 4:35 pm. County Radio advised units they were receiving a call for a house on fire with an occupant trapped on the roof.Engine 6 arrived and confirmed the report. Battalion 2 arrived and reported a 2 story twin, ordinary construction with heavy fire showing from the 1st floor, with heavy smoke throughout. Battalion 2 also reported the victim had been removed by Police and requested the all hands box.Engine 9 and Battalion 1 were added to the box.Engine 6 led off with a 2 1/2 “handline from Division A. Battalion 2 struck the 2nd alarm minutes after arrival. Engine 6, Squad 7, Ladder 2 and Car 3 were brought into the job. Several hand lines were placed in service from Division A and C as Tower Ladder 3 went in service with a master stream from the bucket. Crews had the fire under control at 5:30pm. No injuries were reported on the fire ground. The property was vacant structure.

     

 

   



12-13-06 736 Tulip Street- All Hands

Camden firefighters were alerted at 4am on December 13, 2006 for a reported dwelling fire at 8th and Tulip.  Responding on the box were Engine 6(acting Engine 10) Squad 7, Ladders 1 and 3, Rescue 1 and Battalion 2.  EMS was added due to reports of a victim who was possibly injured.  Engine 6 arrived with smoke showing from the 2nd floor.  Battalion 2 arrived and reported at 736 Tulip, it was a  2 story middle of the row, 20x30, vacant and boarded up, with smoke showing from the number 2 floor striking the all hands.  Engine 1 and Car 3 were added to the box.Engine 6 went in operation with a 1.75” handline, while Rescue 1 performed searches and Ladder 1 forced the boards from the 2nd floor windows.  The victim was located down the block who complained of burns on her legs, as well as possible smoke inhalation.  BLS 22 treated and transported the victim to an area hospital.Crews knocked the fire down on the 2nd floor and checked for extension.  The fire was placed under control around the 20 minute mark.  No firefighter injuries were reported.  The fire is under investigation by the Camden City Fire Marshals.

 

     

 

  



 12-12-06 136 N. 26th Street - All Hands

Eastside boxes keep rolling in keeping firefighters busy through the midnight hours. Engines 9, 11, Ladders 3,1, Rescue 1 and Battalion 2 were dispatched for a reported dwelling fire on the 100 block 26th Street on December 12, 2006 around 3am. Battalion 2 arrived and reported a 2 story twin with heavy fire throughout. The all hands was struck on arrival. Squad 7 and Battalion 1 were added to the box.Engine 9 layed in and went in operation with a 1.75” handline on arrival. Crews worked on the interior knocking down the bulk of the fire before switching to defensive operations. Crews placed several handlines in service from the exterior to bring the blaze under control.The property and the exposure were vacant at the time of the fire. No firefighter injuries were reported. This was the 3rd working fire in 2 days firefighters battled on the Eastside.

   

 



12-10-06 3600 Westfield Ave - All Hands Dwelling

CAMDEN CITY,NJ-  Once again a box was dispatched on the Eastside.  Engines 9, 11, Ladders 3,1, Rescue 1 and Battalion 2 were dispatched to 3600 Westfield Ave for a reported dwelling fire on December 10, 2006 around 1150 pm. Engine 9 arrived on location to find a 2 story dwelling with heavy smoke showing from the 2nd floor.  Engine 9 stretched line and proceeded to the 2nd floor.  Battalion 2 arrived and reported an ordinary construction, 50x75 with heavy smoke showing striking the all hands.  Squad 7 and Battalion 1 were added to the box.  Engine 11 secured a water supply as Ladder 3 threw ground ladders.  Engine 9 went into operation extinguishing the fire on the 2nd floor.  Rescue 1 performed searches with negative results.  No injuries were reported.  The home owners were not on location the time of the fire. Camden City Fire Marshals are investigating the fire at this time.

 



12-10-06 Stockton Station Apartments - 2nd Alarm

 

Camden City Fire Units were dispatched for a box on the East Side at the Stockton Station Apartments on 30th Street on December 10, 2006 around 1215 pm.  Responding on the box were Engines 9,11, Ladders 3,1, Rescue 1 and Battalion 2.Battalion 2 arrived to find apartment U20, an end apartment with heavy fire showing from the basement level with heavy smoke throughout.  Battalion 2 struck the all hands adding Squad 7 and Battalion 1 to the box.  Engine 9 arrived and placed a 1.75” handline in operation to find heavy fire conditions in the basement office.   Engine 11 secured a water supply while Ladder 3 threw ground ladders.  Rescue 1 performed searches with negative results.  Battalion 2 struck the 2nd alarm shortly into the job.  Engines 6,1, Ladder 2 and Car 3 responded on the 2nd alarm. Crews used multiple handlines to knock the fire down.  Crews checked for extension on the upper floors.  Around the 30 minute mark the fire was under control.The fire is under investigation by the Camden City Fire Marshals Office.

 

   



12-8-06 - 500 Block of Royal & Morse - Thorndyke Ave - Dwellings (Photos by Bob Chester)

On Friday December 8, 2006 the Camden City Fire Department were dispatched to
two dwelling fires in the matter of minutes. The first fire in the 500 block of Royal Avenue was reported to be a fire in the roof area of the dwelling. Crews arrived and stretched an 1 3/4 hand line to
extinguish the fire.The second fire was a report of a dwelling fire with occupants trapped. This
fire was reportedly at the corner of Morse Ave and Thorndyke Avenue. Rescue 1
arrived on location and reported a 1 story single family dwelling with smoke
showing. The first arriving Engine Company stretched an 1 - 3/4 hand line, and
held the fire to the kitchen area. Mutual aide was dispatched from Collingswood Rescue 16-1, and Cherry Hill Ladder 1324.The City of Camden Fire Marshals Office was requested to both locations, and the
incidents remain under investigation.

 



12-5-06 1222 Dayton St. - All hands

 

Tones rang through the quiet and freezing city for a dwelling fire on December 5, 2006 at 2:45 am.  Squad 7, Engine 10, Ladders 2, 1, Rescue 1 and Battalion 1 were dispatched to 1222 Dayton Street for a report of a dwelling fire.  Battalion 1 arrived to find a 2 story middle of the row dwelling, with heavy fire showing from the 2nd floor.  The all hands were struck.

Battalion 2 and Engine 8 were added to the box.

Squad 7 arrived and went in operation with a 1.75” handline.  Rescue 1 performed searches; Engine 10 secured a water supply as Ladder 2 through ground ladders.  A 2nd 1.75” handline was stretched and placed in operation. At the 10 minute mark the bulk of the fire was knocked down.  At the 20 minute mark, Battalion 1 placed the fire under control.The American Red Cross was called to assist the 2 displaced occupants.No firefighter injuries were reported.  The fire is under investigation by the Camden City Fire Marshals Office.

 

     



 11-22-06 - 312 Mickle Blvd. - All Hands Dwelling with 3 Rescue's

Tones rang through Camden City around 1 a.m. on November 22, as County Radio dispatched the fire department for a report of a dwelling fire at 312 Mickle Blvd. Engines 1, 6 and 8, Ladder 1 and 2 and Bn. 1 responded on the dispatch and were informed of posible entrapment. Engine 1 arrived to find heavy fire showing and crews entered the dwelling to perform a primary search. Two victims were located on the second floor and removed. EMS reported that both victims were in respiratory arrest.The Ladder crew located and removed a victim on the roof. EMS reported the third victim to have severe burns.Battalion 1 arrived and reported a 3-story, end-of-the-row dwelling with heavy fire on the number-2 floor. This added Bn. 2 to the box. Battalion 2 arrived and requested an additional engine (E-11) and ladder (L-3) to the scene. Car 3 responded as well.The fire quickly went to an all-hands alarm and was placed under control at the 40-minute mark.The Camden County Fire Marshal's Office, as well as the Camden City Fire Marshal's Office are investigating the fire. EMS was dispatched to Engine 8's quarters for a firefighter injury that occured during the fire.

     



11-9-06 - 555 Berkley St. - All Hands

Camden kept busy during the dinner hours with multiple boxes being dispatched. While companies cleared up a careless cooking call, Engine 6, Engine 9, Ladder 1, Ladder 3, Rescue 1 and Battalion 2 were dispatched to 555 Berkley Street for a dwelling fire. Engine 6 arrived in the area 6th and Berkley and reported heavy smoke in the area. Battalion 2 arrived and reported a 2 story twin with heavy fire showing 1st and 2nd floors in the rear, requesting the all hands. Squad 7 and Car 3 responded on the all hands box. Engine 6 went in service with handlines as Ladder 1 through ground ladders. Rescue 1 performed searches while crews were placing multiple lines in service.Battalion 2 reported at the 10 minute mark that he had heavy fire conditions in a vacant with fire in the exposure roof area. Car 3 reported at the 40 minute the bulk of the fire was knocked down.A special call was made for an additional Engine and Ladder. EMS was called to the scene for one firefighter with a back injury. The fire is under investigation by the Camden City Fire Marshals.

   

   



11-09-06 1057 Langham Ave - 2nd Alarm Dwelling

At 0328 hours, a box was transmitted in the city. Squad 7, Engine 8, Ladder 3, Ladder 1, Rescue 1 and Battalion 1 were dispatched to the 1057 Langham Ave for a dwelling fire.Battalion 1 arrived to find a 2 story middle of the row with heavy fire showing on the number 1 floor. Battalion 1 struck the all hands. Responding on the all hands box was Engine 1 and Battalion 2. Engine 8 arrived as first due and went in service with a 2 1/2" handline. A special call was made to Ladder 2 to act as the fast team as both Ladders were being placed in service. At the 10 minute mark, Battalion 1 reported he had heavy fire on both floors striking the 2nd alarm.Engine 9, Engine 6 and Car 3 were added on the 2nd alarm.Rescue 1 performed searches as the Ladder crews through ground ladders and opened up the roof. Battalion 1 ordered all crews to switch to defensive operation and went in service with multiple 2 1/2" handlines. The original fire building was believed to be vacent with both exposures occupied. Witness told police and the Fire Marshals they saw an person throw a fire bomb into the house. The fire was placed under control around the 1 hour mark. No injuries were reported.The fire is under investigation by the Camden City Fire Marshals.

 

   

 

 



11-4-06 623 State Street - 3rd Alarm Dwelling (Pics and Story by Greg Taylor)

On the evening of November 4th, 2006 at approx 2200 Hrs Camden City Firefighters were alerted to 623 State Street for a reported Dwelling fire.  Engine 6, Engine 1, Ladder 1, Ladder 3, Rescue 1, and Battalion 2 were dispatched to the location.  Engine 6 and Battalion 2 arrived to find heavy fire showing from a 3 story M/O/R dwelling with extension to the exposure dwellings as well.  He requested an additional Engine, which brought Engine 11 and Battalion 1.  Shortly after Battalion 2 reported that Rescue 1 had heavy fire from the rear and a 2nd Alarm was requested by the Battalion.  Engine 9, Squad 7, Ladder 2 and Car 3 were dispatched to this assignment.  Companies operated with multiple handlines and elevated master streams for approx 20 mins before the 3rd Alarm was struck.  Mutual Aid companies were dispatched along with Engine 8, and Engine 10.  Pennsauken Companies, Engine 1142, Quint 11-6 and Mask Services 11-4 were on the 3rd Alarm.  Firefighters encountered heavy fire conditions throughout the incident and due to the original dwelling appearing to be vacant; no firefighters were permitted within the dwelling.  UMDNJ EMS along with Virtua-Paramedics were at the scene as well for standby.  Camden County Canteen was brought for refreshments.  It was reported that 1 firefighter with a minor leg injury was transported to the hospital.  The fire was brought under control within 1 ½ hrs. after dispatch.

 



11-4-06  27 & Sherman - All Hands Dwelling (Pics and Story by Greg Taylor)

At approx 0425 hrs. Camden City Firefighters from Engine Companies 9,11; Ladders 3, 1; Rescue 1 and Battalion 2 were dispatched to the area of 27th Street and Sherman Avenue for a reported dwelling fire.  Engine Co. 11 and Battalion 2 arrived onlocation and reported a 2 story E/O/R Vacant Dwelling with heavy fire showing in the rear placing all hands operating.  Battalion 2 then requested an additional Engine and Battalion 1.  This brought Squad Co. 7 as the special call.  Shortly after Battalion 2 also requested an additional Ladder Co. to assume the duties of the RIT.  Ladder 2 was dispatched, and at the 10 Min report, Battalion 2 reported all hands operating with 2 handlines making good progress.  The fire was placed under control within 30 mins and the Battalion corrected the address as 2413 Sherman Avenue.  No injuries were reported at the scene.

   



11-2-06 Pleasent Gardens Apartments- Co Incident ( Story and Pics by Bob Chester)

Carbon monoxide readings of 75 parts per million caused an apartment building to be evacuated. Camden City Fire Department was dispatched to the Pleasant Gardens Apartments on 30th Street around 5:00 am. When the first crews arrived and the readings were discovered, approximately 15 residents were taken to a nearby school for shelter from the rain. Camden City EMS began a triage of the evacuees and later determined that 13 residents needed to be transported to city hospitals. Camden County Communications dispatched additional BLS units from Pennsauken Township, Gloucester City, Bellmawr, and Barrington to transport the affected residents. Public Service crews were dispatched to the scene, as was the camden City Fire Marshals Office. The incident remains under investigation.

 



10-30-06 1104 N. 26th Street - All Hands

 Engine 11, 9, Ladder 3, 1, Rescue 1 and Battalion 2 were dispatched for a dwelling fire around 8am.Engine 11 arrived and reported smoke showing from a 2 story middle of the row. Engine 11 stretched a 1.75" handline to find fire on the first floor. Battalion 2 arrived and struck the all hands. Two 1.75" handlines were placed in operation for fire in 2 room on the first floor. Searches were negative.No injuries were reported. The fire is under investigation by the Camden City Fire Marshals.

 



10-28-06  10th & Ferry Ave's  M.V.A Rescue

Engine 10 and BLS were dispatched to 10th and Ferry on Saturday October 28, 2006 around 3:45 for an M.V.A.
Upon Engine 10's arrival, the crew found a 2 car "T bone" accident, with injuries and one person left trapped. Rescue 1 and Battalion 1 were called to the scene, as well as a 2nd BLS unit.Rescue 1 arrived and went in service with the "tools" removing the passanger side door to free the trapped occupant. Both pt.'s were transported to an area hospital.

     



10-24-06 - 1051 Haddon Ave - Co Box

A full high hazard box was dispatched at around 1pm.Three engines, three Ladders, the Rescue Company, and both Battalions were dispatched for a CO call at the Happy Child Learning Center Daycare.  Camden County Radio advised units that PSEG was on location and recieving high levels of CO in the building.Rescue 1 arrived and went in operation taking readings, reporting the levels to be around 80 Parts Per Million.  EMS command reported one child transported POV prior to units arrival.  Multiple EMS units from Camden City along with mutual aid from the surrounding areas were called to the scene as well.   It was reported that 13 children and 3 adults were transported to area hospital for exposures.  Fire units went in service with ventilation.  Command reported a problem with the heater which was also shut down and secured.  The Fire Marshal as well as the City Building Inspector was called to the scene.



10-16-06 Chesapeake - N. Merrimac- All Hands Dwelling

Camden firefighters were dispatched for a report of a dwelling fire at Chesapeake and Merrimac. Responding on the box were Engines 10, 8 and 1, Ladders 1, 2 and 3, and Battalion 1. Police notifed county that the correct address was North Chesapeake, located a couple of blocks away, and that it was "going good".Companies responded to the updated location to find a 2-story, ordinary construction with heavy fire showing.Battalion 1 arrived and struck the "all-hands", reporting that he had heavy fire on division-C, with heavy smoke throughout, as well as heavy smoke in the attached exposure. Rescue 1 had just become available from a previous assingment and responded, along with Bn. 2 and Car 3. Engine 10's crew stretched a 1.75-inch handline while Engine 8 secured a water supply. Ladder 2 threw ground ladders while Rescue 1 searched the building. A second 1.75-inch handline was stretched and placed into operation, as additional companies searched the attached exposure. The fire was placed under control around the 20-minute mark. No injuries were reported on the fireground and no occupants were found inside the dwelling.The fire is under investigation by the Camden City Fire Marshal.

   

   

 



 10-6-06 2010 Howell St. - All Hands Dwelling

Just five minutes before a box alarm was dispatched on the eastside for a report of a dwelling fire on the 2000 block of Howell Street. Engine 9, 11 and1, Ladder 3 and 1, Rescue 1 and Bn. 2 were dispatched. County radio was also recieving reports of occupants trapped, so EMS was dispatched as well.Battalion 2 arrived at 2010 Howell St. to find a 2-story, ordinary construction middle-of-the-row fully involved. He immediately requested the all-hands, bringing in Bn. 1.Engine 9 went into service with a handline as Ladder 3 vented the roof. Searches were made by Rescue 1, with no occupants found. Engine 11 secured a water supply and placed into service a backup line. The fire was placed under control around the 30-minute mark.

       



10-6-06 - Steward St. - Ladder 1 M.V.A

 While responding to a on an all-hands box in the eastside, Ladder 1 struck a pole on Steward Street.No injuries were reported at the time of the crash.

 



9-29-06 8th & Pine - All Hands Dwelling

 Tones rang through the city dispatching two boxes at once. Full assingments were dispatched for 8th and Pine on the south side as well as 8th and Vine on the north side. Battalion 2 arrived at Vine Street with nothing showing, as Battalion 1 arrived on Pine with heavy smoke showing from a vacent boarded up building. Engine 8 arrived and led off with a handline and the ladder crews forced entry. Battalion 1 reported fire conditions in the rear of the building, and requested the all-hands. Rescue 1's crew removed an occupant from the B-exposure. Crews had the fire under control around the 30-minute mark. No injuries were reported.

     



9-26-06 1633 Pulanski St. - All Hands Dwelling

 EMS command notified county radio of a fire around noon.   The box was filled out, sending Engine 8 and 10, Squad 7, Ladder 2 and 1, Rescue 1, and Bn. 1 and 2 to the scene. Engine 8 arrived and confirmed a working fire. Battalion 1 arrived and reported a 2-story, end-of-the-row, ordinary construction with heavy smoke and fire from the number 2 floor. Engine 8 went into service with handline as Squad 7 hand-stretched the supply line. Two 1.75-inch handlines were placed into operation to control the blaze. The American Red Cross was called to attend to two adults and nine children.

   



9-24-06 7- Atlantic Ave - M.V.A w/ entrapment - Trence Rescue

Shortly before midnight on , Engine 8 was dispatched for a motor vehicle accident. While enroute County Radio informed Engine 8 the box was being upgraded to a Rescue Assingment. Police had arrived on location to find a vehicle in to a construction hole. Rescue 1 and Battalion 1 were added to the assingment.Engine 8 arrived and reported a vehicle in a construction ditch, approx. 15 feet deep, on its side, with occupants trapped. Rescue 1 arrived and went to work with the tools. Squad 7 was added to the assingment as well.Crews worked to stabalize the vehicle and allow EMS to make patient contact. Crews went to work removing the passanger side door, as well as the roof. Crews then secured the pt. to a backboard and extricated him from the wreckage. BLS and ALS worked on the pt. and transported him to the near by Trauma Unit in the City. Police confirmed reports that there were no other vehicles involved in the crash.

   

 

   



9-24-06 612 West Street - All Hands Dwelling

Engines 1,6, Ladders 1,2, Rescue 1 and Battalion 1 were dispatched for a reported dwelling fire around 8pm Rescue 1 arrived to find heavy smoke and fire showing. Battalion 1 arrived and reported a 2 story middle of the row, with heavy fire and smoke showing requesting the all hands. Engine 8 and Battalion 2 were added to the box. Engine 1 led off with 1 1.75" handline to find fire on the number 1 and 2 floors. A second handline was also placed in operation. Rescue 1 performed searches and the Ladder Compnay set up ground ladders. The fire was placed under control around the 20 minute mark. The dwelling was vacent at the time of the blaze. No injuries were reported.

 



9-22-06 545 Bailey St. - All Hands Dwelling

 Engines 6, 1 and 11, Ladders 1, 2 and 3 and Bn. 2 were dispatched for a report of a dwelling fire at 545 Bailey St. on September 22, around 10 a.m. Camden County Radio informed responding units that police were on location reporting a working fire and that they were recieving multiple calls from civilians. Engine 6 arrived on location with smoke showing. Battalion 2 arrived and reported a 2-story, middle-of-the-row dwelling with smoke from the number 2 floor. The all-hands was then requested. Battalion 1 responded on the all hands. Engine 6 went into operation with a handline as Engine 1 secured a water supply and Ladder 3's crew raised ground ladders. The fire was placed under control around the 30-minute mark. No injuries were reported.

   



9-21-06 30 S. 32 St. - 2nd Alarm Dwelling

 Engine 9, 11, Ladder 3, Ladder 1, Rescue 1 and Battalion 2 were dispatched for a vacent dwelling on fire next to 30 S. 32 St., around 12:45pm. Battalion 2 arrived and reported a 2 1/2 story with medium smoke showing from the basement and first floor. Engine 9 went in service with 1 1.75" handline as Engine 11 secured a water supply. Ladder 3 through ground ladders around the dwelling. Squad 7 was added to establish an additional water supply. At 10 minutes Battalion 2 reported the fire had extended to each floor striking the all hands. Battalion 1 was added to the box. Battalion 2 also requested another engine to the scene and minutes later striking the 2nd alarm. Engine 1, 6, Ladder 2, and Car 3 arrived on the 2nd alarm. The property was confirmed vacent, with no occupants inside. The fire was placed under control at the 50-minute mark. No firefighter injuries were reported.

   



9-11-06 430 West St. - Dwelling

Engine 8, Squad 7, Ladders 1 and 2, Rescue 1 and Battalion 1 were dispatched for a dwelling fire in the are of West and Broadway.  Engine 8, under command of Capt. Ryan, reported a 2 story detached vacent with heavy fire showing.  1 1 3/4 handline was stretched and placed in operation.  Squad 7 secured a water supply.  The fire was placed under control at the 20 minute mark.  No injuries were reported.

   



9-9-06 Memorial Dedication (Story by Bob Bartosz)

 On September 9, the Camden City Fire Dept. celebrated their 137th Anniversary, at which they paid tribute to their 24 members who made the supreme sacrifice.
he first member who died in the line-of-duty was on November 1, 1892, and the last member who died in the line-of-duty on March 7, 2006. After many months of work, over 60 relatives and family members of 15 of the 24 fallen firefighters were located and invited to the dedication ceremony of the monument. The monument was erected in front of Camden Fire Headquarters, located at 3rd and Federal street. Monsignor Michael Mannion gave the invocation and then blessed the monument. As a 'piper from the Camden Emerald Society played "Amazing Grace", Camden's Chief of the Department Joseph Marini read out the name and date of each of the fallen firefighters, accompanied by the ringing of a fire bell. Wreaths and flowers were placed around the monument by family members, and members of Local IAFF 788 and 2578, and also by members of the Anniversary Committee. Many of the family members were very grateful for this event and praised the Camden Fire Dept. for paying such an honor to their deceased loved ones.

     

     



7-25-06 2923 Line St. - All Hands Dwelling Fire

Engine 9,11, Ladder 3,1, Rescue 1 and Battalion 2 were dispatched for a dwelling fire at 2923 Line Street.  Battalion 2 arrived and found smoke showing from the roof area. Battalion 2 struck the all hands bringing in Battalion 1 and Squad 7.  Crews stretched 2 handlines to find heavy fire in the cockloft area.  An additional ladder co. was added to the box bringing in Ladder 2. Ladder crews opened up the roof as the Engine Co. made good progress on the fire. Fire was under control under the 30 minute mark.  No injuries were reported.  American Red Cross was called for the displaced occupants.

 



7/6/06 Mt. Ephraim - Ferry Ave - M.V.A

 BLS 1647 was dispatched at the Woodlynne- Camden border on Mt. Ephraim Ave for a M.V.A .BLS unit arrived to find a 2 car accident, 1 with heavy front end damage and the 2nd in to the suppost wires for the pole.  Engine 10 was called along with Rescue 1 and Battalion 1 to remove the car from the wires.One pt. was transported to a area hospital.

 



6-20-06 7th St. Northgate 1 - All Hands Hi Rise

 Engines 6 ,1 and 8, Ladders 1, 2 and 3, Rescue 1, and Battalions 1 and 2 were dispatched for a report of a building fire at the Northgate 1 Apartments on 7th Street, on a summer day.Engine 6 arrived on scene to find heavy fire showing from the second floor of a 21-story hi-rise. Battalion 2 arrived and requested the all hands, making several special requests. Car 3, Ladder 1614 (Collingswood), and the Cascade unit from Pennsauken were brought in to the scene. Crews led off with hi-rise packs and extinguished the blaze in a second-floor apartment. Searches were performed in the apartment and the apartment above, with negative results. Crews encountered heavy smoke on multiple floors, which had left many occupants stranded and confused. Several of the occupants were evacuated via ground ladders, as the rest were escorted out of the building by firefighters to awaiting EMS personnel. Camden EMS, along with Cherry Hill EMS tended to the victims of smoke inhalation. Several were transported to nearby hospitals. The fire was placed under control quickly, while crews worked on getting the occupants out and venting the building. No firefighter injuries were reported. The blaze is under investigation by Camden City Fire Marshals.

     



6-18-06 2917 Mt. Ephraim - Garage Fire

Squad 7, Engine 10, Engine 8, Ladder 2, Ladder 1, Rescue 1, Battalion 1 and Battalion 2 were dispatched for a reported dwelling fire at Mt. Ephraim and Collings Ave's on June 18, 2006. Squad 7 arrived to find a 1 story garage, fully involved, with a telephone pole and wires on fire.  Squad 7 went in service with a 2 1/2 handline and secured its own water supply.  Fire was placed under control in several minutes.

   

 



05-30-06 24 & Federal St.

Engine 9, 11. Squad 7, Ladder 1,2, Rescue 1, Battalion 2, 1 were dispatched for a reported dwelling fire on the unit block of 24 St.  Battalion 2 arrived to find a 2 1/2 story wood frame dwelling with medium smoke showing.  Engine 9 arrived and went in service with 1 1 3/4 handline to find fire conditions on the first floor.  Battalion 2 struck the all hands.  Crews stretched and placed 3 handlines in operation.  No injuries were reported. Cause is under investigation. Camden got its first taste of summer jobs working in temps. reaching the high 90's. 

 



04-22-06 6th & State St. - 2nd Alarm Dwelling

Engines 6 and 1, Ladder(s) 1 and 3, Rescue 1 and Battalion 2 were dispatched for a report of a dwelling fire at 6th and State streets.  Engine 6 arrived to find a vacent dwelling with heavy fire showing. Battalion 2 arrived and requested the all hands, reporting a 3-story twin, with heavy fire from the number-2 floor. Battalion 1 and Engine 11 were added to the box. Around the 10-minute mark Battalion 2 reported he still had fire conditions, and requested the second alarm. Squad 7, Ladder 2 and Car 3 were assigned to the alarm. Crews went defensive around the 20-minute mark. Ladder 1 was set up for master stream operations, and a 2.5-inch line was placed in the rear. Crews continued defensive operations until the fire was placed under control. No firefighter injuries were reported.
   



4-10-06 Woodlynne Trailor Park- Ferry Ave - All Hands

Engine 10, Squad 7, Ladder 2, Ladder 1, Rescue 1 and Battalion 1 were dispatched for a reported moble home fire with a report of people trapped.    Squad 7 arrived with a moble home fully involved and went in service.  Battalion 1 arrived and struck the all hands adding Engine 8 and Battalion 2.  Engine 10 secured a water supply, as Rescue 1 performed a search.  Battalion 1 requested an extra Engine and Ladder for exposure problems.  ALS and BLS treated multiple victims from the home.  Fire was contained to the one trailor with no firefighter injuries. 

   

 



4-9-06 500 blk of Haines St.  - All Hands Dwelling

Engine 8, Squad 7, Ladder 2, Ladder 1, Rescue 1 and Battalion 1 were dispatched for a report of a vacent dwelling fire on the 500 blk. of Haines St.  Engine 8 arrived to find heavy fire showing from a 2 story single standing vacent.  Crews performed exterior operations due to the condition of the dwelling.  The all hands was sounded on arrival.  No firefighter injuries were reported.



4-6-06 527 N. 3rd St. - All Hands Dwelling

Engines 6 and 1, Ladder(s) 1 and 3, Rescue 1 and Battalion 2 were dispatched for a report of a dwelling fire at 3rd and Elm streets around 8:15 a.m. on April 6, 2006.Battalion 2 arrived to find a 3-story wood-frame dwelling with heavy smoke showing. Crews made access to find fire in the basement. Engine 6 went into service with a 1.75-inch handline. Ladder 1 "threw" ground ladders as Rescue 1 searched the dwelling. Engine 1 secured a water supply and dropped a backup line. Battalion 1 "struck" the all hands on arrival, adding the Battalion 1 and an engine. Battalion 2 reported the dwelling to be vacent. Crews had the fire under control around the 20-minute mark. No injuries were reported.

 



3-31-06  27th - Westfield   2nd Alarm Building

 Engines 9 and 11, Ladder(s) 3 and 1, Rescue 1 and Battalion 2 were dispatched across the street from Engine 9's quarters for a report of a building fire one recent April evening. Battalion 2 arrived to find a 2-story taxpayer with heavy smoke showing. Engine 9 went into service with a 1.75-inch handline to find fire in the walls. Battalion 2 struck the second alarm, bringing in Engine(s) 6 and 1, Ladder 2, Battalion 1 and Car 3. Crews went into service with multiple handlines for heavy fire conditions inside the building. The fire was brought under control around the 30-minute mark. No firefighter injuries were reported.The cause of the blaze is under investigation by the Camden City Fire Marshal's office.

   



3-29-06  N10th - Elm St. - All Hands Dwelling

 

Engine 6, Engine 1, Engine 11, Ladder 1, Ladder 3, Rescue 1, and Battalion 2 were dispatched for a dwelling fire.  County advised they were recieving multiple calls on it.  Engine 6 arrived to find heavy fire showing.  Battalion 2 arrived to find a 2 story end of the row, heavily involved with extension and a victim.  One victim was removed from the dwelling and treated by ALS and BLS.  Crews went in service with multiple handlines to knock the blaze.  While units were operating at the blaze a Camden Police Vehicle caught fire.  An additional engine was called for that. 

     

 



3-27-06 3rd - Washington All Hands Dwelling

Engine 1, 6, Ladder 1,3, Rescue 1 and Battalion 1 were dispatched to 3rd and Washington for a dwelling fire.  Upon arrival, Engine 1 reported heavy fire showing going in service with a 2 1/2.  Battalion 1 arrived and struck the all hands reporting a 3 story with heavy fire showing.  Engine 6 and Squad 7 secured a water supplys.  Ladder 1 through ground ladders while the Rescue performed a quick search.  All units remained on the exterior and Tower Ladder operations were set up.  The fire was placed under control around the 60 minute mark.  One firefighter was transported to the hospital due to injury. 

   

 



3-22-06  558 27th St. - Fatal Apartment Fire

Battalion 2 arrived to find a 1 story business in the front with a 2 story apartment in the rear. Battalion 2 reported he had smoke showing from the rear and ordered Ladder 3 to force entry through the locked gate in the front. Battalion 2 struck the all hands bringing in Battalion 1. Engine 11 stretched 1 1 3/4 handline to find fire conditions on the 2nd floor of the apartment. Crews discovered 1 victim to be DOA on the second floor. The fire was placed under control at the 20 minute mark. The City Fire Marshal, County Fire Marshal and Camden Police Detectives were called to the scene.
   



3-21-06  618 N. 8th St. - 2nd Alarm Dwelling

Engine 6 was dispatched for brush at 618 N. 8th St around 245hrs on March 21, 2006. The box was upgraded to a vehicle fire while enroute adding Ladder 1. A 3rd call came in to County Communications reporting it to be a house. The full assingment was dispatched adding Engine 1, Ladder 1, Rescue 1 and Battalion 2. Engine 6 arrived on location to find a 2 story middle of the row with C division fully involved. Battalion 2 arrived and struck the 2nd alarm stating he had exposure problems. Engine 11, Engine 9, Ladder 2, Battalion 1, and Car 3 were added. Engine 6 went in service in the rear with handlines. Squad 7 was added as well. Medics and a squad were added for an unknown status of occupants in the exposures. Crews faced freezing temps. and a wind condition as the fire spread to the occupied exposures. Battlion 2 stated the original fire building was vacent and the rest were occupied. Muliple handlines were used from the A and C divisions. The American Red Cross was called for an approx. 15 people who were displaced from the blaze. No firefighter injuries were reported. The fire was placed under control around the 60 minute mark.

   

   



3-20-06  1246 Princess Ave - 2nd Alarm Dwelling (Info and Pics by Greg Taylor)

On March 20th and approx. 0435hrs Camden City Firefighters from Squad 7, Engine 8, Ladders 3 and 1 along with Rescue 1 and Battalion 1 were dispatched to a report Dwelling fire a 1246 Princess Avenue.  Camden Co. Communications center was getting multiple calls reporting that this was a working fire and added Engine Co. 9 to the assignment as well.  Squad Co. 7 arrived to find a 2 story MOD with Heavy Fire from the 2nd floor.  Companies operated with 3 1 ¾ handlines.  Battalion 2 was also dispatched and shortly after this Battalion 1 requested the 2nd Alarm due to the possibility of extension of fire to the Bravo side.  Engines 6 and 1, with Ladder 2 were dispatched.  UMD-NJ EMS units were also dispatched and stood by at the scene.  Car 3 placed the fire under control at approx 0510hrs and was going to release the 2nd alarm companies.  No reported injuries to firefighters or civilians were taken at the scene.

3-19-06 1114 S. 4th St. - 2nd Alarm Dwelling

Engine 8, Squad 7, Ladder 1, Ladder 2, Rescue 1 and Battalion 1 were dispatched to 1114 S. 4th St. for a reported dwelling fire. Ladder 1 arrived on location to find heavy fire showing and requested the 'all hands'. Battalion 1 arrived to find a 2 story end of the row with heavy fire showing from the 2nd floor striking the 2nd alarm. Engine 6,1,10, Ladder 3, Battalion 2 and Car 3 were added to the job. Engine 8 went in service with a 1 3/4 handline, Rescue 1 performed a primary search while Ladder 1 through ground ladders. A 2nd handline was placed in service as well. Searches were negative. Car 3 placed the fire under control around the 30 minute mark. No firefighter injuries were reported.

     



3-18-06 Tamarac Apartments (Exterior Fire)

Engine 10 was dispatched for a report of a rubbish fire at the Tamarac Apartments on Ferry Ave. Engine 10 arrived to find a fence and pile of trash on fire. Crews went into service with a handline and quickly put the fire out. A matress in the pile was determined to be the origin of the blaze.

   



3-16-06  34th & Harrison - Building Collapse

Rescue 1, Engine 11 and Battalion 2 were dispatched to 34 and Harrison for a report of a structural collapse on Thursday, March 16, 2006. ALS and BLS were added to the box due to reports that there may be occupants inside. Crews arrived to find a 1.5-story, single-family dwelling with severe damage. Battalion 2 reported the inside had collapsed as well. Police units were watching the house the last couple of days but were unable to determine if it was occupied. Police units requested a K9 and the building inspector. All units remained on the exterior until the K9 arrived to perform a search. While units were standing by, voices were heard from the interior. Police units talked a total of two occupants into finding their way outside. The occupants told Police that they had lived in the basement of the dwelling for over 50 years. The building inspector declared the dwelling unsafe and the Red Cross was notified. The K9 searched the dwelling to find no other occupants.

   

                          



3-15-06 10th - Ferry  - Vehicle Fire

 Engine 10 and Ladder 2 were dispatched for a report of a vehicle fire at 10th and Ferry avenues. Engine 10 arrived to find a vehicle fully involved. Crews went into service and quickly controlled the blaze. This was the first of two vehicle fires the city would battle during the night.

   



2-26-06 1875 S. 4th St. - All Hands dwelling fire

Engine 8,10, Ladder 2,1 Rescue 1 and Battalion 1 were dispatched for a report of a dwelling fire with people trapped.  Battalion 1 arrived to find a 2 story middle of the row with heavy smoke showing division A and heavy fire division C.  Battalion 1 struck the all hands bringing in Squad 7 and Battalion 2.  Engine 8 arrived and went in service as Rescue 1 performed searches.  All occupants were out and accounted for.  Battalion 1 requested an additional Ladder bringing in Ladder 3.  Crews had the bulk of the fire knocked down and were checking for extension at the 30 minute mark.  1 Captain was transported to Cooper for minor burns. 

    



2-23-06 1067 Irsonside - All Hands Dwelling Fire

Engine 10, Engine 8, Ladder 2, Ladder 1, Rescue 1 and Battalion 1 were dispached for a dwelling fire. County Radio notified stating a Post Man noticed smoked from the roof. Engine 10's crew arrived and found smoke on the 2nd floor. Battalion 1 arrived and struck the all hands bringing in Squad 7 and Battalion 2. Engine 10's crew pulled ceilings to find fire conditions in the attack. 1 1 3/4 handline was placed in operation followed by a backup line. Ladder 2 set up ground ladders and opened up the roof. Rescue 1 perfomed searches which were negative. Engine 8 secured a water supple and Ladder 1 was the fast team. Crews quickly knocked down the fire and checked for extension. No firefighter injuries were reported.

   



2-22-06 721 Cherry St. - All Hands Dwelling Fire

Engine 8, Squad 7, Ladder 1 and 2, Rescue 1 and Battalion 1 were dispatched for a reported bathroom fire at 721 Cherry St. County Radio informed units they were receiving multiple calls on it. Battalion 1(Kogut) arrived to find a 2 story end of the row dwelling, with heavy smoke showing from the 2nd floor. The all hands was struck bringing in Engine 6 and Battalion 2. Car 2B (Quinn) responder as well. Engine 8 went in service with 1 1 3/4 handline, as Ladder 2 vented and through ground ladders. Rescue 1 performed searches while Squad 7 secured a water supply. Searches were negative. The homeowner was home at the time of the blaze. The fire was under control around the 30 minute mark. The cause of the blaze is under investigation by the Camden City Fire Marshals. No firefighter injuries were reported.

     



2-19-06  2419 Sherman Ave - 2nd Alarm Dwelling (Story and Photos by Greg Taylor)

Camden Firefighters were dispatched to a reported dwelling fire at the area of 27th Street and Sherman Avenue.  Engine 11, 9, Ladder 3, 1, Rescue 1, and Battalion 2 were dispatched.  Engine 11 arrived at 2419 Sherman Avenue to find a 2 story MOR with heavy fire on the 1st floor.  The fire dwelling was the middle of a 6 home row.  Companies went into service with numerous handlines.  Battalion 2 requested the 2nd alarm to be transmitted and brought Squad 7, Engine 6, Ladder 2 and Battalion 1.  Additional call for Engine 1 and Car 3 were also requested.  Companies encountered heavy fire conditions in the original and exposure to the Delta side.  Additional ladder companies from Station 2 (Pennsauken) and Station 12-9 (Merchantville) were called for assistance with ventilation.  Car 3 reported that they had minor extension to the bravo side dwelling but had crews on the interior that made a stop.  Crews on scene found operations difficult due to the freezing temperatures.  As water was hitting the ground it froze almost instantly.  Fire was placed under control within 1 hr and 30 mins with no injuries.

   



2-11-06  1191 Jackson St. - All Hands Dwelling Fire with Burn Victim

A box was filled out for a reported dwelling fire.  Units arrived to find smoke showing from the 2nd floor with a burned occupant leaving the dwelling.  Battalion 1 arrived and struck the all hands.  Crews stretched 1 1 3/4 handline, followed by a backup line to find a fire on the 2nd floor. ALS and BLS transported the severly burned victim to Cooper Trauma Center.

 



2-2-06 - 722 Bailey St. - All Hands Dwelling Fire

Engine 6, Engine 1, Ladder 1, Ladder 3, Rescue 1, Battalion 2, Medic 43 and BLS were dispatched to 722 Bailey St. for a dwelling with reports of people trapped.  Battalion 2 arrived to find a 2 story middle of the row, occupied dwelling with smoke showing from the 2nd floor requesting the All Hands.  Engine 11 and Battalion 1 were added to the box.  Rescue 1 searched the dwelling to find no trapped occupants.  Engine 6 quickly contained the blaze with 1 1 3/4 handline.  Engine 1 established a water supply.  Ladder 1 threw ground ladders. Ladder 3 was the fast company.  No firefighter injuries were reported.
