2-26-06  272 White Horse Pike - 3rd Alarm Building Fire (story and phots by Greg Taylor)

At approx 0615 hrs on Sunday February 26th 2006 Clementon Firefighters were alerted for a reported building fire at 272 White Horse Pike at the U-Haul storage facility.  First officer who was on radio reported seeing heavy fire in the sky and requested 2 additional companies and the all hands transmitted.  It was reported as a 50X200 1 story storage garages on both sides of the structure.  First due engine operated and had the next 2 due engine companies pick-up the hydrant and go into service.  6110 then requested the covers from the stations to respond to the scene and shortly thereafter the 2nd and 3rd alarms were stuck.  Multiple Camden Countywide apparatus was used at the scene and to cover the local stations.  6110 also reported hazardous materials in the structure which activated County and the Camden Co. Hazmat Task.  Companies operated in the cold temperatures for sometime then placing the fire under control at approx 0815 hrs.  No injuries were reported at the scene and the damage was very extensive to numerous garages.  The Camden Co. Fire Marshals are investigating the cause of the fire.
