09-14-05 B Platoon Training - Vehicle Extrication

For weekly drill the B Platoon decided to use the extra car just laying around the drill tower to perform a vehicle extrication drill.  Crews popped all the doors on the van, and later removed the roof. 

     

                                          



10-04-04 904 Stokes Ave - Vehicle Fire

On Oct. 4th, around 1630 hrs, a retired Captain noticed a column of smoke coming from his neighbors property. He found a vehicle located in the rear of the property ablaze. 1613 responded, stretched a 1 3/4 and quickly extinguished the blaze. The homeowner was not home at the time. Neighbors reported the owner to have been working on the vehicle earlier in the morning.

     



2004 Collings & Richey Ave - M.V.A Rescue with Fire

District 16 along with medic 43, 45 were dispatched for a MVA Rescue Assingment-Vehicle Fire at Collings and Richey Ave.  Prior to FD arrival, a civilian put out the blaze from the car.  Engine 1612 and Rescue 1615 arrived to find 1 vehicle on its side with the driver trapped, and 2 other occupants in the other vehicle heavily entrapped.  Rescue from Audubon was special called to the scene.  All occupants were extricated and transported to CMC Trauma. 

     



2004 Eldridge Ave - Vehicle Fire

 Shortly after 9 p.m. on Tuesday, Collingswood's engine 1613, and squad 1647 were dispatched for a reported vehicle fire at Rt. 130 and Eldridge Ave. Upon arrival they found a vehicle fully engulfed in flames. The crew worked to quickly extinguish the blaze. The owner stated his van was overheating minutes before the blaze started in the engine compartment.

   



2004 Haddon Township PD - M.V.A


Accident was the result of an officer traveling down Collings Ave responding to a breaking and entering call.  Accident sent both the officer, and other driver to Cooper.

     



2004- Rt. 130 Northbound M.V.A Result of a PD chase

On Saturday morning shortly after 7:00 a.m., District 16 and Medic 43 were dispatched to Rt. 130 for an MVA with entrapment. BLS from Camden City also responded.

Upon arrival, units encountered a Jeep Cherokee on its side with two victims trapped. Crews worked to extricate the victims by removing the roof. The vehicle had led police on a chase when it struck a small wall, a fence, and then a telephone pole before coming to rest on its side across the northbound lanes. The driver was approximately 4 years shy of being old enough for a drivers license driving a stolen car.

   



2004 Collings Ave - Park Ave M.V.A Rescue

 Shortly after 1530 hrs, in the Borough of Collingswood, Engine 1613, Squad 1647 and Medic 43 were dispatched for a MVA. 1647 arrived to find a van on its side, with entrapment. Rescue 1615 was dispatched to the scene. Crews worked to stabilize the vehicle while Westmont's Rescue 1516 was special called to the scene for use of high lift jacks. Crews removed the windshield as well as the A post to free the occupant around the 15 min. mark. The patient was transported to Cooper Medical Center.

   



2004 1114 Park Ave - M.V.A

Engine 1613 along with mutual aid squad responded to a MVA.  Upon arrival of engine crew, a SUV was on the front lawn with no driver.  PD caught the suspect at his home several blocks away(intoxicated).  The vehicle traveled across 3 lawns full of Christmas decorations before striking a tree.  The driver was not injured. 4 Park Ave - M.V.A



2004 300 blk. White Horse Pike - M.V.A

Engine 1613, Squad 1647, and Medic 43 dispatched for a MVA.  One very intoxicated male, lost control and smashed a pole.  The crash knocked power out in the area for blocks.  The driver was treated for minor injuries.  The tree was not at fault for the crash. 

   



2004 Marina Apt.'s - 2 Alarm Apartment Fire

District 16, Engine 1511 were dispatched for a reported apartment fire.  Upon arrival of 1601, heavy fire was showing from the apt.  The 2nd alarm was transmitted upon arrival.  Engine crew proceeded to attack the fire as well as perform a search. Rescues were made via rear window upon Ladder 1614's arrival.  The owner of the apt. was injured and transported to CMC.  The fire was contained to the 1 apt.  The apt. below sustained severe water damage.  The apt. above sustained severe smoke damage.  1 cat was pronounced DOA. 



December 2004 - Toy Run

Early Saturday morning, FF Aurig, FF Ehret, and Explorer Tredanari traveled over to Bala Cynwyd, PA for a 92.5 Country Event. The event started in the parking lot of the radio station and gathered with 124 other vehicles for a toys for tots event. All the decorated vehicles (cars, trucks, squads, engines, dump trucks and big rigs) traveled to the Franklin Mill Mall, in a parade formation, to form a mountain of toys for the CAPE (Child Abuse Prevention Effort) foundation. The parade, headed by Collingswood, lasted approx 40 mins. Hundreds of toys were collected. The Career Firefighter union of Collingswood donated funds to purchase about 20 fire toys for the event.

     



2004 Swearing in Night

On Monday Oct. 4, 2004 John R. Amet was sworn in as Chief of Department. Chief Amet has been a career firefighter for Collingswood, since 1986. Chief Amet has worked his way up from Firefighter, Shift Officer, Lieutenant, and Captain. Chief Amet commands a 17 man Fire Department in the borough of Collingswood. The Chief was sworn in Monday night at the town meeting by Mayor Maley.




2004 Knight Park - Vehicle in the Water

During a thunderstorm with heavy rain, a box went out for a water rescue in Knigh Park.  A van decided to take a short cut through the park.  Due to poor visibility from the rain, the path they were taking turned into a body of water. The driver was able to get out of the vehicle prior to FD arrival.
