7-23-09 1875 Little Drive - Fatal Dwelling
Fire Crews and Gloucester County Life Support were dispatched for a dwelling fire at 6 p.m. FM 9 arrived on location with smoke showing from the rear of the property with confirmed people trapped. FM 9 tried to gain access in to the dwelling but had to evacuate due to heavy smoke. Crews arrived and stretched a 1 ¾” hand line to find fire in the back room. Crews located the occupant who was unconscious and burned and removed them from the dwelling. The pt. was transported to Cooper Trauma Center by ALS and BLS. The fire was contained to the bedroom with no extension. The pt. later died from their injuries at Cooper Medical Center. The victim was a quadriplegic. The fire has been listed as accidental. Gloucester County Fire Marshals have the fire under investigation.

12-26-07 Rt. 47- PD M.V.A
At 11:30 p.m, a Deptford Police Officer was returning to headquarters to assist in an arrest traveling down Rt. 47 when he was involved in a serious accident.Another patrol car following him, notified central that he was involved in a crash and was trapped in his car. Both vehicles struck head on as that sent the cruiser into a tree. BLS, ALS and Rescue Units were dispatched in Deptford to the location. Crews arrived and found the officer heavily entrapped in the cruiser. Rescue crews went in operation with hydraulic tools to free the officer. BLS tended to the driver of the 1996 Ford Explorer who was complaining of leg pain. The Officer was freed from the vehicle and transported by EMS units to Cooper Trauma Center in Camden. The other driver was transported to a local hospital in Washington Township.The Accident happened on a rainy night in front of the Brunswick Zone Bowling Alley. Both drivers were reported to be wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash. The Officer was being treated for a damaged pelvis and a broken femur. At the time of the report the officer was in a medically induced coma. He was listed in critical but stable condition. The 24 year old officer was surrounded by fellow officers, friends and family at Cooper Hospital. The accident happened 30 minutes into his midnight shift. The roadway was shut down for nearly 3 hours while an investigation was conducted.

12-23-07 Oak Valley Fire Station- 2nd Alarm
At 8 p.m, Gloucester County Communications started receiving calls for a building fire at the Oak Valley Fire Department located in Deptford Township.Calls were being received of heavy smoke showing from the firehouse.A Full box was transmitted dispatching Deptford Stations 9-1, 9-2, Woodbury Heights and Wenonah.Chief 9101 arrived and confirmed a working fire in the station. Command reported heavy smoke and fire showing from the living quarters of the firehouse. The 2nd Alarm was transmitted adding additional crews to the assignment. Responding Oak Valley firefighters arrived and immediately started pulling apparatus, gear and other fire equipment from the bays. Companies then went in operation with multiple 1 ¾” hand lines from the Engine they pulled out of the firehouse.Deptford Ladder Company performed roof operations as the interior crews quickly knocked down the bulk of the fire.The fire was contained to the roof of origin, although the living quarters suffered heavy smoke damage through out. The cause of the fire is under investigation however Fire Marshals believe the fire to be electrical.

11-4-04 Good Intent Rd.- Fatal Ped M.V.A
At 8 pm. Deptford Township Police, Fire and EMS were dispatched to Good Intent Road for a Pedestrian M.V.A.Crews arrived to find a male struck by a vehicle. EMS evaluated the pedestrian struck to find him D.O.A. The driver of the vehicle was transported to a local hospital for minor injuries. The elderly male was reported to be walking home from church when he was crossing the street and struck by the vehicle. Vehicle struck the male from the front with extensive damage to the windshield from his head. Deptford Police have the fatal accident under investigation.

2-12-07 1070 Delsea Dr. - 4th Alarm Building
Deptford, NJ- Fire crews were dispatched to 1070 Delsea Drive in Deptford around 2 am for a reported building fire on February 12, 2007. Police called in to dispatch reporting flames and smoke coming from the Franks Pizza Shop in the Delsea Plaza,Command arrived and reported a 1 story commercial 250x75 strip mall with heavy smoke and fire from the pizza shop. Command struck the all hands on arrival.Crews arrived and stretched lines to the B and D exposures. The 2nd alarm was transmitted shortly after. The Truck Company arrived and went to the roof to vent the building. 30 minutes into the job, Command reported fire in 3 of the 8 units, and it was through the roof at that time. Around the 1 hour mark the 3rd alarm was transmitted for heavy fire conditions. Command reported multiple 2 Tower Ladders in operation as well as multiple handlines from the exterior. 20 minutes later the 4th alarm was transmitted for additional resources. Command reported heavy fire conditions still existing in the main fire building being fed by a broken gas line. PSEG was called for the problem. The fire was placed under control around the 2 hour mark into the job. Sand trucks were called for ice conditions. The fire was believed to of originated in the Franks Pizza Shop and spread to the Speed Queen Laundromat as well as a nail salon. Four other businesses were damaged as well.
None of the businesses were open at the time of the blaze. No injuries were reported. The fire is under investigation by Gloucester County Fire Marshals and the Deptford Township Fire Department.

12-27-06 77 Knollwood Dr. - All Hands Dwelling (Pics and write up by Constantine Sypsomos)
Around 3:30 p.m., Deptford F.D. (Station 9-4, Rescue 938 and Ladder 926), and Deptford ESU (Squad 995) were dispatched to the Lake Tract section of town to #77 Knollwood Dr. in the Lakebridge development for a report of a dwelling fire.
Ladder 946, along with E-921 responded immediately as they were just clearing from an MVA on the New Jersey Turnpike. While en route, Gloucester County Communications informed all units of a reported couch fire with one resident choking in the background during the phone call.
District Chief S. Hubbs (901) arrived on scene within two minutes of dispatch to report a 1.5-story, single-family dwelling with smoke showing and ordered the first due to go into service with a handline. Quint 946 was first in service (this is the first working fire for the new quint). Career Captain R. Taylor (903) led his crew in for a search and extinguishment .. While performing the search, Capt. Taylor along with FF K. Schultz came upon a dog in the living room with shallow breathing. The dog was removed from the structure and tended to by fire and EMS personnel.
The fire was knocked down quickly and under control within five minutes and ventilation was performed.
Crews used an animal oxygen mask to revive the dog while they awaited Gloucester County Animal Control. The dog began to breath on its own as animal control arrived to transport the dog. A second dog was found and removed from the dwelling uninjured.
Crews made quick work of the fire and the homeowner was grateful her pets were saved. The American Red Cross was requested to assist the resident. The fire is under investigation by the Deptford Twp. Fire Marshal's Office and all units cleared the scene at 5:15 p.m.

3-25-06 400 Highland Ave - Dwelling
Command arrived to find a 1 1/2 story single family dwelling with heavy smoke showing filling out the working fire box. Crews arrived and went in service with 1 1 3/4 handline to find heavy fire in the attack as well as the basement. Command pulled all crews out of the dwelling and went defensive on the dwelling due to heavy fire conditions. No injuries were reported.

09-02-05 1390 Hurfville Rd.- All Hands Dwelling Fire
Deptford units were dispatched to a report of a dwelling fire at 1:10 a.m. Units responded to 1390 Hurfville Road to find a one-and-a-half-story building with fire showing. Command struck the "all hands" upon arrival. The fire was reported to have started in the bathroom, with extention to the attic and through the roof. Crews made an aggresive interior attack. The homeowner was home at the time. Deptford units were assisted by a Chews Landing Ladder to control the blaze. No injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
