554 Division St. Fatal Fire

Shortly after 09:00 hours City Fire Marshall Car 5 Charlie Tony Gonzalez happened upon a dwelling with smoke showing from the second floor area, he called the dispatch center and gave a report.  At 09:10 Hours crews of the 2nd Platoon herd the tones ring out for the dwelling fire at 554 Division street in the South Camden section of the city.  On the box were E-8, SQ-7, E-1, TL-1 R-1 and Battalion 1 Paul Matyjasik, crews arrived to find a 2 story vacant end of the row ordinary with heavy smoke showing from the second floor, Battalion 1 arrived and declared the ALL HANDS bringing Battalion 2 Dan Rossi in as Safety Chief, Deputy Chief Tom Quinn also arrived on scene and took Command of the incident.  Engine 8 began the 1st stretch as Tower Ladder 1 and the RESCUE began cutting the boards of this heavily boarded up structure, Engine 8 entered the structure but had difficulty ascending to the second floor due to heavy debris piled up on the stairway, Deputy Chief Quinn was notified and the Second Alarm was struck bringing E-6, E-11 and 2 Truck.  Access was finally gained at the rear of the structure through the second floor window where the bulk of the fire was located, upon entering a victim was found just below the window, the victim was removed through the window to the rear roof area.  Crews continued the fire fight as a primary search was continued through the remainder of the structure.  Ladder 1 went to the roof as crews operating in the B-Bravo exposure found extension into the cockloft, lines were quickly in place and the fire was brought under control.
