7-20-09 191 Presidential Blvd- Fatal 3rd Alarm Hi Rise

A 911 call was received from a resident on the 10^th floor at 191 Presidential Blvd  just before 2:30 p.m.  The caller reported there was a fire in her apartment and she was trapped by flames.  Crews arrived and reported a heavy smoke condition on the 10^th floor.  Crews hooked to the stand pipe and went in for a primary search to find the occupant.  She was removed from the apartment and transported to a near by hospital.  Companies placed a hand line in operation to contain to the one apartment.  A second resident was also transported to a near by hospital.  The fire went to 3 alarms and a total of seven fire companies responded.  The occupant later died from her injuries.  The 10 story hi-rise consisted of condo’s which housed mainly older resident.  No firefighter injuries were reported.  The fire is under investigation.
