12-12-05 Stokes Rd. - Engine Rollover leaves 3 trapped

As Squirt 2514 (Medford) was returning from a report of a structure fire on Stokes Road on Monday, December 12, 2005, the vehicle ran off the road and into a ditch, trapping three firefighters. Rescue and EMS crews worked to free the trapped firefighters from the vehicle, which lay on its side in a six-foot ditch. One firefighter was airlifted to Cooper Trauma Center and the other two were transported to area hospitals. All three firefighters had relatively minor injuries as a result of the incident and were released from their respective hospitals the same day.Reports indicated that the engine was trying to yield for a school bus when its front tire left the pavement causing it to overturn. Speed is not being considered as a factor in the mishap. The road was shut down for hours as police investigated the incident.
