11-23-09 410 W. Cedar Ave - All Hands Dwelling

A dwelling fire was reported in at 12:50 p.m.  Police arrived and reported smoke showing.  Camden County Communications reported a dryer fire in the dwelling. Oaklyn Command arrived and struck the all hands.  Squad 16 secured a water supply on the way in and led off with a 1 ¾” hand line.  Quint 1-1 performed ventilation.  Searches were negative.  The fire was located and extinguished.  No injuries were reported on the fire ground. 

 

   



9-8-09 White Horse Pike- Vehicle vs. Building

At 5:20 p.m. Oaklyn Fire and Mt. Ephraim EMS were dispatched to the WAWA on the White Horse Pike in Oaklyn for a car that hit the building. Oaklyn Chief 18301 arrived and confirmed a vehicle hit the front of the building with a injured driver still in the vehicle.  The Engine Company was directed to secure the power to the vehicle as EMS tended to the injured patient.  The pt. was transported to an area hospital.

 

 

 

 



5-18-09 106 Newton Ave - All Hands Apartment

 

At  9:20 p.m. crews were dispatched in Oaklyn for a reported apartment fire at 106 Newton Ave.  Oaklyn’s Chief arrived and reported a working apartment fire on the 2nd floor.  The All hands box was struck.  Crews led off with a 1 ¾” hand line to find fire conditions in the kitchen and living room area.  A water supply was secured and a 2nd hand line was stretched.  A ground ladder was placed as the Truck Company went to the roof to check for extension.   EMS transported one resident with smoke inhalation.  The fire was placed under control without any firefighter injuries.

 

   

 

 



11-17-08 100 blk Kendall Blvd. - Fatal M.V.A

 

At 5:30 p.m. a M.V.A Rescue Box was dispatched in Oaklyn in the 100 block of Kendall Blvd.  Oaklyn’s Chief arrived and reported a vehicle vs. a dump truck with the driver unconscious.  An expedite was made for EMS.  Fire and EMS crews arrived and removed the pt. from the vehicle as EMS started tending to the pt.  The patient was transported by the BLS and Medic Unit to Cooper Trauma in serious condition.  She later died from her injuries at the hospital.  Police reported the vehicle drove into the back of the dump truck which was parked on the side of the road in a no parking zone.  The Oaklyn Police Chief stated he did not believe she was wearing a seat belt and may have been traveling over the 25 m.p.h speed limit.   The accident is under investigation by the Oaklyn Police Department and the Camden County Accident Investigation Police Team. 

 

   



9-1-08 Manor Ave - All Hands Dwelling

 

A Task Force Box was dispatched in Oaklyn for a dwelling fire on Manor Ave.  Oaklyn’s Chief arrived and reported smoke showing from a 1 ½ story single family dwelling striking the all hands.  Engine 1613 arrived, stretched a 1 ¾” hand line to extinguish the fire located in the kitchen area.  Crews from Oaklyn, Collingswood, Westmont, Audubon and Mt. Ephraim were called to the scene.  The fire was confined to the kitchen area with no injuries. 

 



10-18-06  20 Clinton Ave - Haz Mat Assingment

 Engine 18-3, HazMat 5 (Gloucester City) and BLS 1557 from (Westmont) were dispatched to the Oaklyn Courthouse.Command met with police that were inside the courthouse at the time and received reports of possible mace or pepper spray having been discharged inside the courthouse by an unknown source. Westmont BLS treated and transported a victim to a local hospital for ill-like symptoms. Collingswood's Engine 1613 and BLS 1647, and Field Comm 2 were requested to the scene as well.HazMat 5 went into the building to take air samples. Crews declared the courthouse safe and ventilated the building. The situation was placed under control and is being investigated by the Oaklyn Police Dept.

     



8-21-06 Aftermath of the Inferno at 301 Clinton Ave- 7th Alarm

Oaklyn,NJ- Just the morning after the blaze which climbed to 7 alarms at 301 Clinton Ave on the afternoon of August 20 which continued into day after, crews were already on scene tearing down the building.  Oaklyn Fire Chief Quinter described the blaze as the worse in the town in over a decade.  Engine crews were still being brought in to the scene to hit hot spots around the 24 hour progress report.  Crews from all over Camden County worked through the afternoon and night to control the blaze.  All the dwellings located just feet away from the inferno were saved.  One garage was lost when the wall fell and totally crushed it.  Two firefighters were transported to the hospital for feeling ill.  One from Collingswood, and one from Audubon.  Both were treated and released. Over a hundred  firefighters were called to the scene and assisted in the firefighting efforts.  The Camden County Fire Marshals are still investigating the cause of the blaze.

8-20-06 301 Clinton Ave - 7th Alarm Building Fire

 - At 4:30 p.m., Oaklyn firefighters were notified of a building fire at 301 Clinton Avenue. Multiple calls were being recieved by Camden County Radio, reporting smoke coming from the building.
Unit 18301 arrived on location and reported three cars to be fully-involved inside the mixed occupany building, with heavy smoke throughout. Command reported heavy fire conditions throughout the building.
Upon arrival, a second alarm was requested. The commercial building was occupied with a car repair shop, a wheelchair store and a vending machine company. Engine 1613 (Collingswood) and Squad 1832 went into service with two 2.5-inch handlines on the exterior. No interior attacks were made due to the building's condition. Crews battled the blaze as conditions got worse. Ladder 1514 (Westmont) initially setup a master stream from its bucket, but was forced to shut down operations and relocate farther away from the building. The third alarm was requested, followed by the fourth. Fire broke out along the roofline as the entire building became fully-involved. The fifth alarm was soon sounded, which brought in more personell. Multiple EMS crews were requested to the scene. Tower-Ladders were setup surrounding the building on each side. Multiple engines were also assigned to protect the exposures. The bulk of the fire was knocked down five hours into the job. Towns from all over Camden County (and several from Gloucester County) were requested to assist with fighting the blaze. A fuel truck was brought in to refuel the apparatus. Task forces were staged along White Horse Pike.

Appox 2400hr station 18-3 was dispatched for a reported dwelling fire. 18-301 arrived on location to find a two story OMD with smoke showing from the second floor.the all hands was struck bringin in sta 1-1(audubon),engine 451(Mt. Ephiam) as the F.A.S.T team and also the ISAT team.Two hand lines were put into service.Shortly after the fire was placed under control.The fire is still under investigation by the camden county fire marshals office.
 


7-3-06 310 Newton Ct.- 2nd Alarm Dwelling (photos by John Axford, Greg Taylor and Bill Winkler)

Station 18-3 was dispatched around 430 am for a dwelling fire.  Chief Quinter arrived to find a single family dwelling fully involved striking the all hands.  Engine 1613 (collingswood) and Ladder 1514 (westmont) were called in to assist.  1613 and 1832 arrived together both going in service with 2 1/2 hoselines.  The 2nd alarm was sounded shortly into the job.  Crews made a defensive attack on the blaze and fought it for approx 3 hours.  The homeowners were not home at the time of the blaze.  Camden County Fire Marshals are have the blaze under investigation.

3-23-06  Oakland Ave - Vehicle Fire

Station 18-3 was dispatched for a dwelling fire on Oakland Ave called in by the Chief.  Chief Quinner reported a vehicle with an engine compartment fire next to a dwelling.  A Chief from Westmont arrived on location and controlled the vehicle with a garden hose until the Engine arrived.  The fire spread to the fence but did not involve the dwelling.  Engine 1832 arrived to control the blaze.

 

   



01-9-06 - Chief's Swearing In Night 

At the local town meeting in Oaklyn, the new Fire Chiefs were sworn in on Monday, January 9, 2006. Chief Mark Quinter and Assistant Chief Curt Hudson were sworn in by Mayor Lamaina. Mark's father, John, is a former- Assistant Chief for Oaklyn.
Curt Hudson (South Jersey Photographer) also held the rank of Asst. Chief, and Chief  in the past.



11-27-05 White Horse Pike & E. Haddon Ave - M.V.A

 The Oaklyn Assistant Fire Chief called in a crash on Sunday morning. The Chief reported a 2-car accident, and a traffic light down on the sidewalk. Both vehicles were off the roadway as well. Oaklyn Fire Department responded. One vehicle was secured by cutting the battery cables. Units remained on location until PSE&G arrived and cut power to the fallen traffic light. No medical attention was required on scene.

 



10-30-05 Newton Ave - Vehicle Vs. Pole

Engine 1832 and Squad 1857 were dispatched for a report of an MVA on Newton Avenue and Lakeview at 12 p.m. on October 30, 2005.
Chief 18301 arrived to find a vehicle into a telephone pole. The Chief requested an emergency response from PSE&G due to the pole being snapped at the bottom with a transformer at the top.
The patient was out of the vehicle upon arrival and lying on the grass. The Oaklyn squad transported her to a local hospital with neck and back injuries.
No other vehicles were involved in the crash.
